William Sarensky Obituary

Sarensky, William J.
Oneida: William J. Sarensky, 96, formerly of Sherman Street, died Saturday, September 27, 2008, in the Pines of Peace Hospice, Ontario, where he had been a patient for the past two days.
Born in Passaic, NJ, on December 29, 1911, he was the son of Peter and Sofia Zagya Sarensky. Bill moved to this area in 1921 and was a graduate of Verona High School, Class of 1930. He married Phyllis Klara in Transfiguration Church, Rome, on June 18, 1938. Mrs. Sarensky died on August 3, 2004. Following her death, Mr. Sarensky moved to Fairport, where he resided with his daughter and son-in-law for two years, before moving to Village Wood of Penfield, which was an assisted living facility.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Sarensky was employed with the Oneida Limited, Silversmiths. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, where he served as an usher for over forty-five years, a member of the Community Associated Clubs, the Oneida Limited Retirement Club, and served with the Oneida Housing Authority for over twenty years.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and David A. Schmitt of Fairport; three grandchildren, Andrew Schmitt, Heidi Marafoti and Eric Schmitt; one brother and two sisters-in-law, George and Josephine Sarensky of Verona and Jennie Sarensky of Oneida; eight great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Grandpa Jaju", Kellee, Peter, Mary, Bridget, Stephanie, Hannah, Kate and Greta; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Sarensky and five brothers, Stanley Sarensky, John Sarensky, Frank Sarensky, Joseph Sarensky and Edward Sarensky.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM, Wednesday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, and 10 AM from St. Joseph's Church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Richard Kapral, pastor. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 3-7 PM, Tuesday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to Pines of Peace Hospice, 2378 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519. Envelopes for this fund may be obtained at the funeral home.
