My condolences to the entire Murtagh family. Although I have not seen Eddie in many years I will always cherish the time we shared together back in the 1970/1980 timeframe. Ed coached several adult hockey teams (The Dutch Mill, The Yellow Tiger, Jack Ryan’s) and I was fortunate to be on most of those teams. Ed was very passionate about his hockey and ran those teams as if they were professional organizations. He was always “scouting” for quality players but first made certain they’d fit in with the rest of the team. Team chemistry was important to Eddie. We all got along and hence played well together. Ed always made us competitive and winning only added to the fun atmosphere. Ed was the “godfather” of men’s hockey back then. Everyone knew him. Everyone liked him. He was a good friend to all including me and my brother Jeff. He touched numerous lives and left us all with great memories. I’ll always remember Coach Eddie!

My heart goes out to the entire Murtagh clan. I have felt for over 30 years That I was a part of this fabulous family, unfortunately I had not seen Eddie for several years but he was always in my heart. We had a lot of good time. He told me many times he thought of me as a second daughter and I thought of him as my 2nd father. Eddie you will be missed by everyone who's life you touched!

Our condolences to your family. I am a first cousin of Stape's. his father and my father (Robert) were brothers. I live in FL now and heard about his passing from my brother (robert Murtagh, Jr). It's been a very long time since we've seen any of the Murtagh family except for Mary Ann (Aunt Frances daughter, also a Murtagh). My mother Eleanor Murtagh died in 2006 she had been divorced from Stapes Uncle Bob for over 30 years, so there wasnt much contact anymore, still it is family and we (my husband & I )send our thoughts and prayers to all of you.
Sincerely, Ralph & Mary Gerner.
