Ellen Aquino Obituary
Webster: Suddenly, as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Sat., June 16, 2007, age 25. She leaves her parents, John and Lauri Aquino; twin sister, Kate; grandparents, Barbara and Lucius Hall, Lois Aquino; great-great aunt, Ann Bennett; aunts and uncles, Mark (Gail) Hall, Beth Hall, Todd (Luisa) Hall and Donna (Steve) Tedesco; 5 cousins, Thomas and James Hall, Kara, Daniel and Monica Tedesco; many friends. Ellen was a Webster High School class of 2000 graduate and a 2004 graduate of Daemen College, where she was also a master's degree candidate.
Friends are invited to her Memorial Service, 11:00 A.M. Sat. at Webster Presbyterian Church, 550 Webster Rd., Webster. Memorials may be directed to Camp Haccamo, P.O. Box 25177, Rochester, NY 14625. Arr: Willard H. Scott Funeral Home.

Ellen and I graduated from Daemen together and had many classes together. She is an amazing person and the special education world has lost one of it's biggest advocates. Ellen was one of the most amazing people I have ever known. We grew up together at Klem South, through Girl Scouts, Middle and High School. The summers I spent with Kate and Ellen at their house swimming and watching the facts of life will always be some of my fondest memories. She was an amazing person, friend, teacher... she will always be loved, but never forgotten.

I am very sorry for your loss. I had the honor of working with Ellen at SECEP. It was my first year in the education field and she taught me so many things that I will never forget. My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. I met Ellen her freshman year at Daemen and was her suite-mate during her sophomore year. I have many great memories from the three years we went to Daemen together. She was always encouraging and supportive of my theatrical endeavors. I just found out about the accident. I'm beyond sorry and wish this never happened. I'm another AtoZ poster; I have twin daughters, and I've talked online with Ellen several times about twins in school, and about special needs (for my credential program). She will be missed. It is so strange to know she'll never be online again. I am so sorry you, her family, have lost her. Your grief must be enormous. I'm sorry.

Like many of the people signing here, I only knew Ellen through the A to Z teaching website. Even with that limitted contact, I was impressed with what an intelligent, compassionate person and teacher she was. I looked up to her as an example of the kind of teacher that I hope to be when I finish graduate school. :)

I am another A to Z'er inspired by Ellen. Thru her posts, it was so clear that her spirit was so pure and loving. She was a born teacher--not only to her students, but to adults as well. She came to the forum with a genuine desire to help others be the best they can be.
The pain in your heart is unimaginable. Know that your daughter touched so many people, in a way that only she could. So many people don't take full advantage of their gifts, but Ellen did. She used her gifts to brighten the lives of so many others.
May the Lord surround you with his love and your precious memories of Ellen bring you comfort. She was truly an angel.

Like many others, I knew Ellen through AtoZ Teacher Stuff. I've picked her brain so many times for particular situations with special ed kids I've worked with, and will always be greatful for her words of advice, encouragement, and insight. He is at this very moment surrounding you with His abudant love and giving you the warmest hug because we down here are writing that you were greatly respected and dearly cared for. It is very, very sad that your time here was only twenty-five years, but hopefully, it was twenty-five years well spent. Ellen, Jessica, and I were a part of the infamous D-Unit at Camp Haccamo (Camp Directors). We all started at camp around the same time, Ellen a year earlier than I, and we all shared the same passion for this place that was clearly more than the sum of its parts. She loved the kids that we served and it was pretty clear that she was loved in return. I feel very blessed that I was able to work very closely with Ellen during our last year at camp and we were very proud of what we accomplished against some pretty tough opposition that year. I'll remember Ellen's quirky sense of humor and her innate ability to excel at anything she chose to be a part of. She is an inspiration to many and will never be forgotten. She will be sorely missed.
Ellen was a big comfort to me when I lost my brother last year and I think the words she sent to me apply now as well:
When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart,
and you shall see that in truth, you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

When reading my prayer chain requests this week, my heart was broken to read of Ellen's passing. What a tragic loss for you all. I remember Kate and Ellen from the many years they attended Sunday school at the Methodist Church in Webster. What adorable little girls they both were and as we watched them grow, they turned into beautiful young ladies. I knew Ellen from the AtoZ teacher forum. Her wit and charm were just some of the endearing traits she will be remembered by. She was a lovely woman and we have lost a friend on our forum. I knew Ellen personally as one of my employees at CDS. I adored her and she was a highly gifted behavior specialist. She was clearly smarter than I, and her contributions to the lives of the people she worked with will endure for many years to come. She touched many people's lives with developmental disabilities as well as the people with whom she worked. Such a brilliant, kind, loving person she was with the oddest and funniest sense of humor I have ever met! She will be so sorely missed--beyond words! We all mourn her loss here. Camp Haccamo takes comfort in knowing that now we have a special guardian angel to watch over our campers. Ellen was a blessing to the program as both a volunteer and a staff member. We will certainly miss her.

I personally never knew Ellen. I was in an online crafting community with her and upon hearing of her death felt the need to express my sympathy. It's a sad, sad day. She was so young. I got to know Ellen through the A to Z teacher forum. I am also a special education teacher and I was always grateful for all of the insight and encouragement that I received from Ellen. Although I am older than Ellen and have been teaching for a longer period, "I want to grow up to be as great of a special education teacher as Ellen was." She has touched many lives!

Although Ellen's life was taken way too soon, her purpose in life was crystal clear. All those whose life she touched are somehow better people for having known her.
I recall Ellen stating on the forum that teaching just came naturally to her. She was correct! Her gift to reach and teach others will live on, and her influence will remain.

I know that, while she was attending Daemen College, Ellen had such a profound impact on so many lives and, after reading the comments from the guest book, which indicate how far reaching was Ellen's influence on others in distant places, I felt that the following would be a meaningful statement for Ellen's life:

I met Ellen when I entered Klem Road South Elementary School in third grade. Her and Kate made the transition from schools easy for me, and I became good friends with both of them instantly. Ellen was one of my greatest friends throughout Elementary, Jr. High and High School. We made so many memories that I'll cherish forever. She was an amazing person and wonderful friend. I wanted to pass along my sympathies to the family as well. I have learned many things and "talked" about different subjects on the "A to Z" teacher forum with Ellen. I always knew where to look for her posts since she used a picture of herself!! I'm glad to have gotten "know" her through the website.
