Rice, James Edward
Fairport: October 13, 2007 at age 82. Survived by his wife of 56 years Grace, daughters Michelle (Mike) Adams of Nashville TN, Jamie of Arlington, VA, sons Mark (Cynthia) of Penfield, Glenn of Fairport and Jase (Marie) of Hermosa Beach, CA and seven grandchildren Brad, Greg and Tyler Adams and Ashley, Clayton, Trevor and Connor Rice.
A Rochester native, Jim was a graduate of Madison High School where he served as class Vice President and Cornell University where he was a member of the Lacrosse Team and Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
Jim was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean conflict while serving in the US Army. Rising to the rank of Captain, Jim was an officer in several Airborne divisions prior to his honorable discharge in 1955.
Professionally, Jim was a well known and respected figure in the world of professional photography and photo-finishing. After a 31 year career at Eastman Kodak Company, Jim accepted the James McGhee Professorship at Rochester Institute of Technology, holding the chaired position until 1995, when he retired with the status of Professor Emeritus. While at RIT, Jim received the Photo Marketing Association- Distinguished Service Award for his career contributions to the photo industry as an executive and educator. In addition, Jim was a valued industry consultant to a number of clients including NASA.
Among his many interests, Jim was an avid golfer and a longtime member of The Country Club of Mendon where he also served as a board member.
There will be no prior calling hours as Jim's wishes included that he be an anatomical gift donor for research at The University of Rochester Medical Center.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on the 10th of November 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 2617 East Avenue, Brighton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Radiation Oncology Research at the Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Ave., Box 704, Rochester, NY 14618.
