Ruth Schaffer Obituary
Orlando, FL.: 91, passed away October 22, 2007 in Orlando, FL. Mrs. Schaffer was born September 27, 1916 in Ashwood, New York to Fred and Gertrude Cole. Mrs. Schaffer was a member of First Methodist Church of Orlando and St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Orlando Lutheran Towers. A graduate of Lyndonville High School, class of 1934. She was also past president of Wood High PTA in Indianapolis, IN, and a member of DAR and DOC. Ruth was a world traveler, enjoyed genealogy and was an avid reader. After retiring, she worked along with her late husband, Robert Paul Schaffer doing income tax returns for about ten years in Orlando, FL. She is survived by her son, Paul R. Schaffer of Orlando, FL; sister, Frances Elizabeth Axtell of Medina, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and cousins.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 25th from 5 - 7 pm with Services on Friday at 11 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Pine Castle Chapel. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 1- 2 pm with Services at 2 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Orlando Lutheran Towers with interment immediately following at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by BALDWIN FAIRCHILD PINE CASTLE CHAPEL, 5800 Hansel Avenue, Orlando, FL 32809, (407) 855-5800.

Aunt Ruth, I enjoyed corresponding with you while I was in college and I enjoyed getting to know you and deepening our friendship these last few years. There are so many wonderful memories that I have of you and I don't have enough space to detail them all. You placed a high priority on family and you had a genenous and giving spirit. While on the inside we might all still grieve for you, on the outside we are celebrating your victory into eternal life.

I have fond memories of all the many good times we joined you and Paul for dinner. I still have the living room chairs you gave to me when you moved. I look at them now in my living room and smile as they remind me of you. Thank you for your loving kindness. You will be greatly missed.

We will miss you so much Ruth. You were very much like a grandmother to us, also. We loved visiting you at your house on weekends and getting together to eat at new and exciting places! I remember when we went to Johnny Rivers and it was someone's birthday and they made them get up on a chair and they sang to them. You said under your breath, "I'm glad its not my birthday!" We still laugh about that. We smile with the memories we have with you. We will make more memories with Paul now.

Great Aunt Ruth,
I have great memories of growing up and having Christmas Eve at your house after the church service. Your house was always so beautifully decorated with the Christmas tree and village. I also loved the tree that snowed.
You were like a grandmother to me. I am so glad that you were able to see and hold my first son, Kaiden, and I will always tell my 2nd child, Kaiya, all about you. We love you!

You will greatly be missed. You have been a grandmother figure in my life. One of my fondest memories is alwys going over to your house after the Christmaa Eve Service and enjoying the beautiful decorations, the tree that snowed and the village.

Paul- we are so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. We really enjoyed our visits when we came to Orlando. Aunt Ruth always greeted us with open arms and made us feel so welcome. She was an incredible lady-with a beautiful soul. We will carry wonderful memories of her in our hearts. She will truly be missed by all of us. I can invision Uncle Bob standing at heaven's gate reaching for her hand to lead her to her glorious eternal life with Jesus. We will keep you in our prayers.

I am grateful that I was able to get to know you and Paul through my friendship with the Lyons' family. I remember fondly the times we met at Sharon's Restaurant and your home. I miss you so much! I remember feeling this way once before. Barbara and I had spent the summer at Grandma and Grandpa Cole's house. You, Bob and Paul came there for a week's vacation. I had never been homesick for my mother all that summer until the day you left and I cried. You have always reminded me so much of my mother all the way through my life. When Mother died, you filled her role for me, my children and grandchildren. You were always in my corner and there for me when I had cancer. Just as you were there for me when Mother died, I will do my best to be there for Paul now.
