Penn Yan: October 25, 2007 at age 86. He is survived by sons, Philip (Mary) Barnes Watkins Glen and David Barnes of Rochester; grandchildren, Melanie (Keith) Caslin, Steven Barnes, Kerry Hoover, Meagan (Scott) Yaw and one great-grandson, Samuel David Caslin; brother-in-law, Carlton (Marlene) Elling of Geneva; sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Roark of Coldbrook, NY; several nieces & nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Doris Elling Barnes in July, 2000; several brothers and sisters, including his twin Chester Barnes in 1999. Mr. Barnes was born November 14, 1920 in McDonough, NY the son of Llewellyn and Mary Anne Whitmore, Walter and Anna Barnes and foster son of Maynard and Edna Stoddard. He was transportation supervisor for the Penn Yan Central Schools, a graduate of Franklin Academy in Prattsburg, NY, a World War II U.S. Army Air Division, member of Penn Yan Methodist Church and Ell-D-Van Class Masonic Lodge in Dresden and the Ameican Legion. For many years he sold cars and was known to many as their Bus Driver.
Calling hours 2-5 Sunday 10/28 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan. Funeral Service, Monday 2:00 P.M. at United Methodist Church, Rev. Wayne Butler, Officiating. Interment Bellona Cemetery. Memorials to Penn Yan Methodist Church, The Homestead or the Soldiers & Sailors Hospital.
