Meredith Nielsen Obituary
She was born in Penn Yan, N.Y. on July 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Keith and Nellie (Southall) Folts.
Meredith received her BA from SUNY Geneseo. She taught for 14 years at Penn Yan Elementary School and 14 years at Dundee Elementary School, retiring in 1980.
She was a 94 year life member of Bluff Point United Methodist Church and a member of the Retired Teachers of Yates County.
Following her retirement, she gave of herself to many organizations. She worked every week at Once Again Shop. Meredith volunteered for the American Red Cross blood banks and assisted with the Lenten Luncheon for the Council of Churches. Also, Meredith was the best pie maker in Yates county!
Meredith is survived by her children, Brenda (Richie) Austin, Dan (Jane) Nielsen and Jeffrey (Terri) Nielsen; seven grandchildren, Kristopher Mahan, Kimberly Mahan, J. Ryan Nielsen (Andrea), Brandi Long (Matthew), Danielle Reilly (Brian), Gunner Nielsen and Annika Nielsen (Evan Russell); nine great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald on October 26, 2014; and brother, Rodney Folts.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bluff Point United Methodist Church on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bluff Point United Methodist Church, 3044 Kinneys Corners Rd., Keuka Park, N.Y. 14478.
