I met Elder Fyans in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1942. He took my sister and I to Sunday School in a neighbors home after we came home from "Mass". We loved the difference in what the Mormons had to offer and loved the missionaries. I have a photo of him with me, my sisters and neighbor friends climbing onto him to take a photo. It was my 10th Birthday party. My parents were John and Lola Garrison. I was later baptized in 1947 in Texas because of his influence on me when I was only 10 years old.We have sweeet memories of him in later years when we visited their family in SLC. Our love and condolences to the family.

May the Lord be with you all and be a great comfort to you all. Bishop Fyans was a great Bishop to me in the Butler Ward when I was a teenager.

Dear Helen and family:
Because of illness, we were unable to attend the viewing and the services. We wanted so much to see you and pay our respects. We have very fond memories of the two of you: (1) at the dedication of the Mexico City Temple where you and Jean both had brown alligator shoes that you had bought at ZCMI, (2) as members of our ward and good neighbors, (3) Tom's willingness to give us a special tour of the upper room of the Kirtland Temple, and (4) at your beautiful place in St. George. You are very special people. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family with his choicest blessings.
Love,
Richard & Jean Turley

Dearest Helen,
Larry and I would like to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family on the recent passing of
your wonderful husband, and our beloved friend, Tom. When we returned from our England Manchester Mission, we were sorry to learn that you had moved back to Salt Lake. Before we left, Tom had assisted our Stake Pres. Clifford Dunn, in setting us apart. Just having both of you there at that special time, touched our hearts.
Our lives have intertwined many times since we returned to Salt Lake in 1965 from Denver, Colorado. We're grateful for every shared experience. You both have been such an inspiration to us. God bless you dear one. We love you.

Dearest Sister Helen and All the Family,

We are so saddened to learn of our beloved Presidente Fyans passing. We have loved the past seven years of having you at our semi-annual Uruguayan Reunions, and of being blessed by your attendance at our sealing in the St George Temple in August 2003. Your influence in our lives during our missions was wonderful...we are better because of your examples of love and humor! May you all feel our thoughts and prayers of condolence at this time, but most of all may you feel the warmth and comfort of the loving arms of God enfolding each of you. Loving Regards, Carol and Howard Snow, Perpetual Education Fund, Santiago CHILE

Dear Fyans Family,
I am very grateful to your wonderful father who had a multi-generational impact on my family. He served in the missionfield and in my mother's home when she was a year old. Brother Fyans was instrumental in introducing my mother's family to the gospel. That has had impact on a large extended family as we continue to grow in the gospel. His impact is like a little ripple in the water that grows and grows reaching to eternity.

Personally, Brother Fyans gave me a much needed blessing of health when I was four. It was his instruction and guidance that directed my parents to seek other medical care to meet my needs.

We always loved the Mexican dinners that we shared in our home. Brother and Sister Fyans always shared their spirit and wisdom with us. Thank you and we love you!

What a wonderful inspiration Elder Fyans was to me. I loved his talks. God be with you.

To the Fyans family:
It was my privilege to serve under President Fyans in the Uruguayan
Mission. I could not have had a better mission president. His influence on me has been a blessing throughout my life.
My prayers are with you all.

Dear Helen and girls,
I just wanted to express my love to you and your family at this time of sorrow and joy. I will always remember the time that you and Tom spent in my parents home and all the wonderful stories that you shared with us growing up. Last night, when dad notified me that Tom had passed I let my husband know and our eldest daughter asked me who the man was that had died and I told her that he was a very special man in my life and in that of her father's life. I indicated that he was the person to perform our sealing in the temple that made us an eternal family. She (my eldest) was touched. Helen, thank you for being a terrific influence in my life and for sharing your sweet husband with my family, both immediate and extended.

Dear Fyans Family
My wife and I were serving in the Korea Seoul Mission in 1977 when Elder and Sister Fyans came to Korea. Elder Fyans helped us through some issues that we had in a patient and loving way. Sister Fyans was very gracious and thoughtful to bring us some much needed items. We learned a great deal from them both and send our love at this time. We trust that the Comforter will be with you.

To Helen and family,
Karen and I love Tom and all of you. We first knew him when we presided in the SLC mission and he was the area president. He was so tender and effective in helping us to serve well. I appreciated further association in the Seventy, and we admired your service at the temple. He is a giant and angelic man, a brother and a continuing great example to us. Bless you all.

Dear Helen and Family,
I really want to tell your family how sorry I am to hear of Tom's passing. He was indeed a special part of our life. The times that you and he spent sitting at the dinner table sharing your experiences are memories that I will always treasure. I have always loved and appreciated both of you. To the Fyans Family: I would like to express my condolences for your loss. I have had the pleasure of knowing Tom and Helen for approximately 16 years. They have always been very kind and loving toward me, which to me exemplifies the true meaning of being a Christian. Those of you who know me, know that I am Catholic and that over time I have asked many questions about the Mormon Church (LDS). On the occassions that I asked Tom about the Church, he always took time to explain and made me feel as if he welcomed my interest. I pray that Helen and all of his daughters and grandchildren will be comforted with the fact that he has gone home.

Elder Fyans sealed my wife and I in the temple, I can still remember his loving counsel on marriage. He sure seemed like a great man. He lived a long life and it sounds like it was time to move on. What a celebration of life!

Surely a great man has departed after sowing the glad tidings during all his days on Earth! I had the privilege of working by his side during his time as Mission Pte. in Uruguay and my life has been enriched by his teachings, his loving heart, and his brilliant mind that had no rest giving advise and counsel! Blessed be Tom! and may the Lord impart strength to his dear family ... a wonderful group of 5 daughters and Helen, sweet companion who always added her tenderness upon the Saints in Uruguay and Paraguay!
I only regret not to be in Utah in order to hug all of them! My wife, Lila, joins me in sending our most sincere affection at this time of affliction... One day we will all be together and our feelings will not need to be explained because our eyes and embrace will speak louder than our voices! Tom remains in our hearts forever!

To the Fyans Family~
We couldn't make the birthday celebration, but really wanted to. You all know how influential Presidente Fyans was in my life. He was like a father to me during my mission, and a dear, though far away, friend thereafter. He gave me confidence, understanding and great guidance. Helen was always right by his side and he adored her, we could see. What a beautiful example their partnership has been. Love to you, Helen, and fond remembrances to the five girls.
Carinosamente~

We will miss Uncle Tom. His sense of humor, kind nature, and wisdom were among the many of his attributes. Over the years, I have crossed paths with several individuals who have also had their lives enriched by his influence, whether in Uraguay, St. George, etc. It is always wonderful to hear about his legacy. He touched the lives of many.

Uncle Tom was a very important part of my family. I felt his stability and influence in my life many times. We were thinking of him on his 90th birthday last Saturday and sang "Happy Birthday" for him at our Bertelsen Reunion. He made his goal of living to 90 and then slipped away just as he had wanted. My love to you and your girls, Aunt Helen.

Uncle Tom was like a father to me. Summer after summer he opened his life to me. Innumerable times he guided me in the lessons of life. He lead me to fashion a future architecture and mission for my life but founded upon family and history. He was like a great Cedar tree that has provided respite and guidance for many. We were intrinsically blessed to have personally been linked to that great Cedar. Now may Uncle Tom obtain his rest in the greatest of all Cedar trees, that of the Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to share my love at this time with my Aunt Helen and all my cousins. I will see you this summer. This week, I unfortunately will be with my one week old grandson Jackson David Fyans in Milwaukee. Gods greatest Blesings to you all and keep Romans chapter 8 close to your hearts.
