Dear Aunt Joy & Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Elden was a great man and, quite candidly, my favorite uncle! I have great memories coming over to your house as a child. I always have respected and loved Elden's gentle and kind nature and great sense of humor. My prayers and love are with you all. It was a beautiful funeral; you all did such a nice job--it was nice seeing many of you--I wish I'd had more time to stay and catch up with you all.

Dear Joy and Family,
We wish we could be there and express our sympathy in person. We are on Vacation in the Balitic Region and just left Oslo Norway. We wish we could be there to share in your sadness. We have a profound respect for Eldon, Mom taught with him for years and saw his dedication and hard work with the student and our ward. We appreciate what a good father he was to his wonderful family. Thanks to him and all of you for your love shown to our family through the years.
With Love & Sympathy, Mary Cook and Barbara Cook

Mr. Hurst was my biology teacher at Olympus High. He was definitely one of my favorite teachers during my years at Oly. My deepest sympathy to the Hurst Family for their loss.

The "Spendloves" send their love and thoughts to the hurst family. When I was a Sumbeem and was shown pictures of "This it the prophet - President McKay" and "There are the apostles" - It was Borther Hurst that was pointed out as "This is the bishop" -- He will always be "the bishop" in my mind.
I imagine there is quite the "Hinckley" reunion going on right now with those that were adults when he was Bishop

Dear Aunt Joy & family, You are all in my prayers tonight. I just heard about Uncle Eldon's passing a few minutes ago. He was a wonderful man who touched my youth in a huge and special way. Your family is and always has been a great inspiration to me.
I love you very much. Ann Marie

I love my Grandpa!! I will miss him immensely!! It has been hard the last few years to watch him age. But I find comfort in the fact that he is finally free of the physical infirmities that age brings on. I know that if I live right and because of my Savior, Jesus Christ I will see my Grandpa again.
I also have a memory of him from my wedding. He was interviewed for my wedding video and he was listing my siblings in the order we were born. "First came, Davy Crockett and then Annie Oakley and then Daniel Boone and then we had Calamity Jane." Since I am the Calamity Jane I hope that I am a good Calamity.
I will always be thankful for my grandpa's presence, his patience and his overall great example! Thank you grandpa!!
My family will miss having him come for my kid's birthday parties and other activities. We will also miss his narration of the our Savior's birth on Christmas Eve.
Our thoughts and prayers are with grandma and the rest of the family as we all mourn the loss of this great patriarch.
We love you all!

My favorite memory of my Grandpa was at my wedding lunch. Grandpa stood up to give a toast and he just let the jokes fly. No one knew he was going to do this. My favorite joke was, "If Jason (my husband) is alone in the forest is he still wrong?" It was the best part of the wedding lunch. I still hear comments on funny he was.
For a high school assignment I had to interview my Grandpa about World War II. I learned through this interview that my grandpa was really good at morse code. So good that it was his job to post basketball game scores for the other soilders.
My grandpa was very supportive of me. He came to my recitals, graduations, concerts, and baby blessings. I will miss him but I know I will see him again one day. I will not be able to make it to the funeral but I am thinking about the rest of the family and send my love and support.

Mr. Hurst was my science teacher at Olympus High School. Later, his son, Farrell, was one of my close friends. I have always admired the love the Hurst family members had for one another. My fondest teenage memories are of being at the Hurst home. May God bless and comfort you at this time.

During my High School Years 1958-1961 Eldon Hurst was both my Bishop and my school teacher. I enjoyed him greatly in both areas. I always have known him since as 'Bishop Hurst'. He was a speaker at my Missionary Farewell and I still have a recording of his remarks. He and Joy have been very close friends over the years to my parents, Verdell & Dana Bishop. Often we would drive to their home in Salt Lake City after they moved from Hinckley. I pray that Joy and Bishop Hurst's family may gain comfort from He who extends his Hand to us all.

There are so many memories to share about dad. He was kind, soft, strong, honest. His visits at our home were special. We saw mom and dad walking holding hands while they walked to the Temple. It was so nice to see them dancing, during the family activities with the Bejaranos. We enjoyed our family prayers with him. We will miss him tremendously; but we have been blessed by being with him and by loving him. We hope to live righteously so we can live with him again. We will not be able to be with the family at the funeral but our dad Paul, is there and our hearts and spirits will be with Grandma Joy and all the family.
Aloha from Hawaii,
RosaMaria, Victoria, Rebecca, Paul Joshua, and Firpo.
