Heather Cygan Obituary

CYGAN (PICK) Heather (Pick) Cygan. Local hero and 10-TV news anchor, Heather (Pick) Cygan, lost her battle to breast cancer on Friday, November 7, 2008. Heather is survived by her husband, Joe; their children, Julia 7 and Jack 4; loving and supportive relatives and many, many close friends. Heather was the shining light in every room she entered as well as in the heart of every person she met. Not only was she sweet and caring, but the energy, courage and bravery bottled up in her petite frame exceeded that of an entire varsity cheerleading squad AND football team. Fighting and cheering for children. Fighting and cheering for women. Educating the public. Making loved ones laugh. Making strangers laugh. Brightening up the life of everyone she came in contact with. These are the things for which this wonderful young woman will be remembered. Maybe her bright pink wigs too. There will be a private celebration of life for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, Heather requested simply, "Don't wait. Give someone an unexpected gift just because you appreciate them. Take your own loved ones to a cherished community treasure or try something completely new." If you would like to make a donation in Heather's memory, please consider The Columbus Zoo, Nationwide Children's Hospital or the Stefanie Spielman Fund. A bench in Heather's honor will be dedicated by the pond upon entrance to the Columbus Zoo - a favorite place to visit with her family. Sign the online guestbook at www.dispatch.com/obituaries

Heather's legacy through her music lives on. I have a granddaughter who is 2 yrs old and as a small 3 month old infant I would play Heather's CD and sing to her. By the time the first two songs were completed my graddaughter would be asleep. And every time she stayed overnight, we would play the CD and when she would come and visit she would request "Na Na" Mamal. In November of 2013, my granddaughter was visiting and she was playing with her dolls and began rocking her doll and singing "Na Na" This is the first song on the CD. Still today my granddaughter needs to hear the Cd to go to sleep when she is here, it has become a grandma and granddaughter tradition. I hope Heather's family reads this and know how much Heather is still touching the lives of so many. She is truely a blessing.

To the family:

I have watched Heather every morning, for many years. She was a hoot and a bright spot to an otherwise dismal start of day. She gave me the conviction to get moving in the morning. If she could be so cheerful, what excuse have I not to be.

I will truly miss her and her winning ways. She is now being used in Heaven to bless the Angels as she has blessed us here on earth.

Take part in knowing this and keep knowing what a treasure you shared with the world. We all thank you so much for your generosity. For you could have pressured her to keep with you and not over exert herself. But, instead you encouraged and supported her desire to live and share.

Have a blessed life and know how very much she was and is loved!

"A strong circle ne'er breaks,
wings of love are ne'er gone,
eternity ne'er forsakes.
Children wrapped in wings,
forever blessed with song,
an angel bird that sings,
her spirit will live on."...
Whenever it rains in the early morning,
I will always remember Heather saying,
"It'll be easy for the birds to
get their breakfast this morning,
all the worms will be out of their holes."

Wishing you peace during this tragic time. I was shocked to learn of her death. I have thought about her daily...and the fight in her spirit. Her eyes and smile will continue to shine, as she watches over those that she loved in life. She will be with you all....even in death. Have peace in knowing she no longer is suffering.
Your family is will be in my prayers.

To have loved one, then lost,
is still better than to have never been so blessed.
To have been enriched by one's cheerfulness,
their memory lingers on.

Their hopes and ideals in the crevices of your mind,
their wisdom is there when you need it.
Whatever was good and noble within your loved one,
they still live through you.

May their life have had purpose and meaning
by keeping their good seed alive.
Only then can we truly say,"In Loving Memory."

God be with you and yours
through this difficult time.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

May God keep the family that is left behind, Heather was a very storng and caring woman. She will be missed. Lord lift up this family as they need you like never before.

November 13, 2008

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. Heather touched everyone in the 10TV viewing area. I lost my mother fours years ago at Christmas time from a rare form of cancer. On her desk I found the following poem and would like to share with your family:

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below,
with tiny lights, like heaven's stars, reflecting in the snow. The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tears, for I am spending Christmas with Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear, but the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas Choir up here. I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring, for it is beyond description to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me. I see the pain inside your heart, but I am not so far away. We really aren't apart. So be happy for me dear ones. You know I hold you dear. And be glad I'm spending Christmas with Christ this year.

I send you each a "special gift" from my heavenly home above. I send you each a memory of my undying love. After all "LOVE" is the gift, more precious than pure gold. It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.

Please love and keep each other, as My Father said to do, for I can't count the blessing or the love He has for you. So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away the tears, remember that I'm spending Christmas with Christ this year.

I have never watched any other news channel more than channel 10. Heather's cheerful smile and funny comments will surely be missed. Heather was always so full of life and funny. I enjoyed watching her on the 10tv news. Her smile was beautiful, never revealing her fight with cancer. Someone with that much enthusiasm for life truly enjoyed making others and herself happy. She was definitely a bright shining light and will not be forgotten. She is smiling down on her family and friends right now and continuing to make a difference in their lives. May her wishes be carried out by many.

My heart grieves at the loss of Heather. I've never met her but feel like she is part of my family. I started every morning by watching her on the news.
