Thank you all for leaving your thoughts and memories of Richard. It has meant alot to us as his family, and helped to comfort us, that so many people cared for and loved him.

I
never met lizard (the name under which I knew the man), but I consider him a close friend. I don't like you not being here one bit my brother, but such is the rules of life and death I suppose. I'll never listen to Mountain Jam by the Allman Bros. without thinking about you brother. Rest easy.

I never had a chance to meet Richard, or "Lizard," as I knew him from the Ultimatemetal forums. I had hoped one day to meet him and share some good times. He never had anything bad to say about anyone and had a top notch sense of humor. I met my boyfriend Derick on Ultimatemetal, and Richard was always our #1 fan. I'll really miss him and it's very frustrating to know that he's not there in front of his computer at work, making everyone's days a little brighter with his good nature and humor. Me deepest condolences go out to his family and friends, including all of us who only knew him from our computer screens.

Its always hard to say goodbye, but my friend you'll not be forgotten. You were a great man. My God watch over you, and may he watch your family.

A fine fellow, missed a great deal. Lizard was one of the most affable and well liked people to frequent anywhere.Heartfelt sympathies to the entire Burr family.

Although I never had the pleasure to meet Richard, the little of him I was associated with was definately a profound experience. Many sympathies to his family and friends, and RIP.

I also never had the opportunity to meet Richard out in the real world, yet I still feel great sorrow at his passing. I can really think of no other person anywhere that made me laugh as hard and as consistently as "lizard." His outlook on life was fantastic and his kindness was well known to all of us. The fact that his passing has so greatly affected us acquaintances from all over the world is testament to what a great person he was. I can not even begin to imagine the kind of pain this must cause his family and friends. My thoughts and heartfelt best wishes are with them. Rest in peace friend.

Though I was never afforded the opportunity to meet this great man in person, his kindness and sense of humour were legendary among those who did know him. My condolences to his friends and family, he will be dearly missed!

Although I may have not known Rich in person... I'm saddened that I'll never get the chance to meet him. I post on one of the forums that he frequented, and am beyond shocked at this news. My condolences to the entire Burr family, and all of their friends.

Although I never knew Rick personally, his antics were hilarious and his ability to make the worst things in the world and in life seem humorous was one of his greatest virtues. From what I gathered from his stories about himself, he was a stand-up citizen and a good family man.

I will miss him greatly.

My greatest condolences to his family and closest friends for the loss.

Lizard, I spent the past week trying to get in touch with you and wondering where you were. I hope your are dueling alongside your ancestors in Heaven. You'll be missed.

This is a little odd to write, because I never met Richard in real life - I knew him from an online community of music fans. I don't mean to presume too much by posting here among friends and family who were much closer to him than I.

That said, Richard was was one of the most consistently cheerful, aware and entertaining people in the community, always fun to talk to and full of useful tidbits of information and good stories. It was obvious to all of us that he lived a rich, full life, and he went out of his way to share things he had learned and seen with people all over the world. I always had the deepest respect for him as someone who recognized the value of making connections with other people, and kept his eyes open for all that the world had to offer him.

I can only express my deepest sympathies to the friends and family he left behind, and say that Richard will be remembered in some surprising places for a while to come. He was a remarkable man.

I'm another Munich friend of Rick's. Being so loved by some others whom he has never actually met in person is a great testament to his fine character. I will always remember Rick as the intelligent, kind-hearted man of integrity that he was. I can't help but to feel that I lost a big brother.

My heart goes out to Noah, Erica, and the Burr family.

Rick Caffery

September 23, 2006

To Noah, extended family and friends of Rick, my deepest condolences for the loss of this gentle spirit. I got to know Rick well several years ago through the University of Maryland/Munich Campus website message board.

He was a funny, kind and interesting fellow who obviously had a love and appreciation for seeing the best in people.

His hilarious satirical perspective of the world will be sorely missed. I comforted myself this morning by going back and reading many of the emails we exchanged over the years and chuckling through watery eyes over the laughs we shared.

May he rest in peace.

Though I never met Rick in person, he was a friend through our ties to Munich and "The Board." Our politics might've been different, but we shared a love of friends and family and books and music as well as a similar upbringing - the mixed-up crazy life of a military brat.

In all the years I knew Rick he was nothing but kind and generous. A true peacemaker.

My most heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. He will truly be missed by his Munich friends.

Rick and I were students together in Munich in the late 70s...we didn't know each other well then, but we connected in the 90s, and he and Noah drove to the DC area for a get-together and stayed with me and my wife for a few days...what a great guy...thoughts and prayers go out to all his family..
