I had the unique pleasure of playing with Jay from 71-76 with Sonny Turner and The Sound Limited. We were all soul mates. He was the King Curtis. He was a great sax player. He brought music to our ears. He will be missed by all: Sonny Turner, Terry Manion, Jeff Carr, Paul Jones, and Joe LePold.

Laura & family,

What a shock to learn of Jay’s passing. The day you guys came to town was a wonderful day for Dothan, Alabama. Not only will Jay’s great talent and sense of humor be missed, but also the fact that he was a true kind soul, which is rare these days.

May his memory be eternal . . .

Uncle Jay was one of a kind to say the least. Growing up and seeing him play was the main reason I took up the family profession. Over the past few years he always gave me the best advice and support for anything I asked upon him. I truly feel like I have been blessed to have been his nephew. Jay was a musical and mental giant. He also was one of the most loving people you could have ever meet. I love you Uncle Jay, thank you for your humor and love. CHEERS TO JAY SCOTT, THE FUNKIEST "BLUE EYED" SOUL MAN TO EVER LIVE!!!

Jay, Jay , Jay....I can't believe it. Jay taught me so many things like, show up get paid, never argue with a drunk and especially "the dancing poodle always wins". What a fabulous musician and friend. Always funny, so smart. I love you Jay!!! I love you Pat C!!! My heart goes out to your family during this very difficult time. This community will miss Jay so much!

I knew Jay from his nicname, "Stump", which he used in our flying game in the internet, FA. We could talk to each other in real time and I got to know and enjoy him very much. He and I became friends and we talked almost every night. He had a warm heart and was a very good person to know. Yes I miss him very much and I wish his family well.

What small amount of latin percussion I know was taught to me by Jay while working with us at Studio Four. I am certainly not in Jay's league but I love to hit my skins.

To Laura, Kevin, David and the Scott family I send my most sincere condolences.

Sadly, I missed much of Jay’s early career. However, he did on occasion sit in with the Norman Andrew’s band while I was a member in the early 1980’s. I cannot remember ever playing with a more talented and elegant sax player. What a unique individual!

Jay was an incredibly talented musician, and such a sharp wit... I’ll never forget when I first met Jay and sister Laura, in the late 60’s…
They were part of the most exotic family I ever met in Dothan… Tooling around town in their old English Taxi, they were hip, cool, and beautiful…
I jammed with Jay whenever I had a chance, but those times were far too rare… I did have Jay over late one magical night at my old home studio, and we played till the sun came up… I still have recordings of those sessions… Jay was a bright flame that burned out too soon… I’ll miss him…

Jay Scott was instrumental in the development of the Bayview Cafe, a little club that his talent put on the map.
He played hard, loved well, and enjoyed his life.
I have no way to express to thoes that matter most what he meant to me.
He rocked my world, made me laugh, taught me so much.
Jay, You know what I love about you most? Every swing ounce.
To the flying aces, Jay loved you guys, you gave him a good time, Thanks.

Several music industry websites have the following quote (links below):
On, "Say It Sister," you will be treated to Sweet Screaming Sax Solos from Jay Scott, who quickly became internationally known for his riveting riffs and solos on, "I Love The Nightlife". Jay's sax brilliance has been enhanced on the new digitally remixed and remastered, "I Love The Nightlife" tracks. The mystique of Jay's sweet bluesy tones have also been highlighted in the remixes and remastering of "California Sunset", on "Say It Sister."

I was really saddened to hear of Jay's passing. I am originally from Dothan and I played music with Jay a few years with Mitch Goodsons band. I remember one song that Jay sang and played his sax on " What Does It Take by Junior Walker and The Allstars" that Jay was so good doing. It was an honor to play music with him. Jay is in Heaven with God now and I will never forget him.

I am sorry to hear of Jay's passing. Although I haven't seen him in many years, I remember him fondly.
Jay was one of my buddies at Dothan High School in 1970-71. As a new student, he instantly befriended me. I always knew he stood by me and I am still grateful to him for that. He was always funny, talented, a rebel, pushed the envelope. We had great times in Mr. Lawrence's art class! Travel well, Jay.

I am so very sorry to hear of Jay's passing. I had recently chatted with him on Facebook - what a great guy!
The last time I saw him, he was playing at Schooners. I spoke to him, and we talked about his wonderful family. I remembered his dad being on the "ham radio", and we laughed about that. When I left, he made a point to say goodbye and to thank me for remembering his dad.
To Laura, and all the family, my deepest sympathies go to you. Laura, I will never forget how much you helped me when I lost my brother by driving me around in the taxi cab.
I am so sorry for your loss...
Love and Prayers are with you...

Jay Scott the music man. Hard to believe he is gone. I first met Jay many years ago at the Bay View Cafe in Panama City. I was walking by with friends and we heard this wonderful music coming from the Bay View. We looked in and it was Jay and his sax. That was the beginning of a long time friendship. We will miss you, Jay

That cat could really wail on a sax, and make it look easy! Never forget his Sachmo "Wonderful World" routine. Jay had a wonderful stage persona and we will forever treasure the wonderful times we had listening to him at the Bayview Cafe. I suppose he's meeting the rest of Heaven's Band and setting up to play with Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison and Jimmy Hendrix... And no doubt making them all LAUGH! See you, buddy.

The Bird has flown. I, and a select few of my musician friends called him "The Bird", just as was the name of the great saxophonist Charlie Parker. Jay's talents were just as awesome. I am proud to say that I played with him and his father, the great Jay Paul Scott, and that they were my friends.
My best thoughts go out to Patsy, whom I met the last time I saw Jay. Also his mother and sisters.
Yes, The Bird has flown, but will never be forgotten. Daniel Casher
