AMESBURY — David Grantland Brooks, 75, of Amesbury, formerly of Haverhill, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare in Amesbury. He was the loving husband of Jean E. (Hatt) Brooks, to whom he had been married 33 years.
Born in Haverhill, Nov. 27, 1932, son of the late Phillips F. and Ruth (Picard) Brooks, he graduated from Essex Agricultural School.
A professional driver, Mr. Brooks worked for the Yankee Bus Lines in Boston.
A hardworking, family man, Mr. Brooks lived life to the fullest, enjoying every moment as if it might be his last. The simple things in life were the most precious; a family gathering with great food and good conversation, a smile or burst of genuine laughter from one of his many grandchildren; a kind, gentle touch or a very simple, but sincere "thank you" — these were the most special things that warmed the heart and the spirit.
In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his six children, Ann E. Standley, Betty Gibson, Sheryl A. Lau; David F. Brooks, Rhoda F. Connolly and Josephine P. Pelzcar; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kelvin Brooks and Phillips F. Brooks II; and one sister, Beverly A. Micheson. He was predeceased by his brother, Norman Brooks.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services and interment will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury. Online condolences may be made to paulcrogersandsons.com.

If tears could build a highway, and memories were a lane, We would walk right up to heaven, And bring you home again, No farewell words were spoken, No time to say goodbye, You were gone before we knew it, And only god knows why, Our hearts still ache in sadness, And secret tears still flow, What it meant to lose you, No one can ever know. Forever in Our Hearts. I Also Wanna Tell aunt jean an her family that you in our thoughts an prayers love Teri, Dwayne an Kids (nikki, an hunter)
