Robert Gouin Obituary

Robert F. Gouin, Sr. Longtime resident of Lebanon, CT, WWII Veteran; 87 LEOMINSTER Robert F. Gouin, Sr., 87 years old, of Leominster, died Friday, October 10, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bertha (Marschat) Gouin; sister, Laurianna Schaum of Jefferson City, MO; daughter, Giselle Komorowski of Oakdale, CT; three sons, Robert Jr. of Leominster, MA, Gregory of Peachtree City, GA, and Roderick of Willimantic, CT; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and one predeceased son, Keith who died in 1974. Robert was born in Coleraine, Quebec in 1921, the son of Marie-Anna-Rose LaCroix and Francois Xavier Gouin. He is a US Army veteran of three Pacific campaigns during WWII. He served as a tech sergeant with the 3rd Battalion, 27th infantry receiving the Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Purple Heart. Robert was a longtime member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, known as the CCC. As a very creative man, he designed and fabricated small machinery in the wire and cable industry for many years; he also held licenses for pipefitting and steam boiler operation. He was an avid bowler for many years; he will be deeply missed by his family.
