Constantino Amico Obituary

Constantino 'Tuffy' J. Amico of Fitchburg, Navy vet, WWII; 81 FITCHBURG Constantino "Tuffy" Joseph Amico, 81, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, October 23, surrounded by his wife and his family. He was born in Leominster, on October 10, 1927, the son of late Lorenzo and Angelina (Sambito) Amico of Montechiaro, Sicily. Tuffy served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. Tuffy enjoyed traveling with his wife, Nina to Texas and California to visit his sons and their families. He took pleasure in throwing lobster bakes and backyard barbeques at his daughters' homes in Fitchburg. He always put his family first. A favorite pastime of his was going out to eat with his wife and friends and dining on the homemade Italian food and pastry she made for him and his family. He especially enjoyed helping his wife make Italian food and pastry for holidays and big family get togethers whether they be in Massachusetts, Texas, or California. Tuffy was known by all as a very kind and generous man, loving brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. Playing with his grandchildren, listening to big band music, telling jokes to lighten our spirits, and was always so much fun to be around. He also enjoyed his afternoon walks and talks with his friends at the Searstown Mall. Tuffy was extremely proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed striking up conversations with anyone and everyone to get to know them and find out more about their ancestry. He leaves his wife, Nina (Cali) Amico; two sons, Michael Amico and his wife, Gezilla of Houston, TX, and Mark Amico and his wife, Angelica of San Clemente, CA; two daughters, Cheryl M. Spano and her husband, Mike, and Diane A. Toolin and her husband, Maurice of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren, Cassandra Farnsworth and her husband, Russell, Christina Spano, James Toolin, Ryan Toolin, Nicole Amico, Nicholas Amico, Michael Amico, and Nina Amico; two brothers, Anthony "Tony" and his wife, Amelia "Mimi" Amico of Leominster, and Victor Amico and his wife, Ann of Leominster; and one sister, Sarah Linenkemper of Leominster. He was predeceased by his brothers, Larry Amico and Rosario Amico. AMICO A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church, 84 Salem Street Fitchburg, Wednesday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. At the request of the family, burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Constantino Amico can be made to St. Anthony's Church, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg, MA 01420. Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, is assisting the family with arrangements.

To the Amico Family,

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Amico on several occasions when he would visit Mark in California. And as was always the case, Mr. Amico was such a fun and enjoyable guy who really seemed to enjoy the camaraderie and good-natured ribbing that his son practiced with great frequency. He was always quick with a joke, usually at the expense of my Irish heritage which I really enjoyed. Most importantly, it was great to see Mark and his Dad grow closer in recent years and to hear how much Mr. Amico enjoyed his west coast grandchildren.

Please accept our sincere condolences on his passing. Thankfully, the Amico’s seem to be one of those great families that will provide each other the love and support needed during this difficult time and we will certainly keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

All of our very best,

Ron,Ruth,Jenn, Jeff, Stephanie and George Farnsworth/Holden

To the Amico Family:
We were so fortunate to have met your husband, father, grandfather, when we moved to Leominster. Constantino truly lived up to his name: 'Amico'......in Italian is translated as 'Friend'. He was our friend, our amico, and he made us feel so comfortable when we would meet at Diane and Maurice's family reunions. I guess you could say that this wonderful family did not hesitate to adopt us and extend their kind friendship to us. I will miss Constantino's sincere smile, his keen sense of humour and the exchange of Italian words and phrases.
Our sincere sympathies to you: Nina, Diane, Maurice, James, Ryan, Cheryl and family, Mark, Michael and families. Arrividerci caro amico, Constantino.

To Michael and Amico Family

Michael although I did not know or had the opportunity to meet your father personally, I could only imagine what your father was like; I'm sure he treated everyone the same and that's with respect, a person who genuinely listened to you, was passionate about family, a generous and loving person who touch many souls in his lifetime.

They say your children's own actions as they grow to become parents themselves is a reflection of your how you were brought up. If that's true then your father did a terrific job as it reflects in your own outstanding personality; your success, your compassion for others, your high regard to your own family and children and to the love of your wife, Gez.

So I commend your father, I imagine he was a great person because I see it in his son and grandchildren.

Although there may be nothing I can say to take away your pain, I just want you to know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. As the days and weeks pass, and as you all return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

God Bless

Nina & Family,

My life is truly richer for having the blessing of knowing Tuffy. The love he displayed for his family and the warmth and friendship he offered to those he met was a gift from God to those who knew Tuffy. One of the great joys of my life was the time I was able to spend speaking with and visiting with Tuffy. He had a great wisdom which he displayed in the way he lived. Tuffy will always remain with us in our hearts and the warm, loving memories he gave us to keep and hold in our lives.
Thank you Tuffy!

We are sad to hear of Tuffy's passing.
I have fond memories as a child, living next to all of you on Hobson Street. I remember Tuffy stopping at home during the day, driving his Wachusett truck, probably to say hi to his family. I know you will only have good memories of him. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time.
