Robert Fickett Obituary

Robert N. Fickett was co-owner of Fitchburg Engineering; 84 LUNENBURG Robert N. Fickett, 84, of Lunenburg, died Friday morning, Oct. 24, in the Apple Valley Center in Ayer. Bob was born in Fitchburg, on Feb. 7, 1924, a son of the late Ernest L. and Mabel E. (McKee) Fickett. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1941 and attended the University of Maine-Orono with a concentration in mechanical engineering. Bob went to work for his father in 1943 at the Fitchburg Engineering Corporation. He would later co-own and operate that business for nearly 40 years prior to his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, he founded Mechanical Consulting and Engineering and did private consulting for several years. In 1952, Bob moved in to his home in Lunenburg, which he built for his wife and family. Through the years Bob was very active in several civic and town organizations including the United Parish of Lunenburg, the Rotary Club of Fitchburg where he was a past-president, the Aurora Lodge of Mason in Fitchburg where he was a past Master. He was also a 32nd degree Mason with membership in the Scottish Rite of Boston and the Aleppo Shriners of Wilmington. He was a charter member of the Midstate Antique Car Club, past president of the Veteran Motor Car Club of America and former Board member for AAA of North Central MA. He served as chairman of the building committee for the Fitchburg Masonic building, as well as a member of the Eagle House Senior Center, Lunenburg Highway Department building and T.C. Passios Elementary School addition building committees. Bob was also a member of the Wachusett Philatelic Society and the Lunenburg Council on Aging. He was an advisor for the VICA Mentoring program at Monty Tech and served on the Board of Directors for the Fitchburg Salvation Army. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Janet H. (Hardy) Fickett of Lunenburg; two daughters, Gail E. Healy and her husband, Thomas of Greenfield, and Joan C. Anderson and her husband, Jeffrey of Westminster; four grandchildren, Kirby Anderson, Ali Anderson, Meghan Healy, and Shea Healy and several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Loudon of Townsend, and Nancy Hildonen of Rockport. FICKETT A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the United Parish of Lunenburg on Main St. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Fitchburg following cremation. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the United Parish of Lunenburg, 39 Main St., Lunenburg, MA 01462 or to the Friends of the Eagle House Inc., Memorial Dr., Lunenburg, MA 01462. www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net
