Edmond Donlan Obituary

Dr. Edmond Patrick Donlan of Fitchburg; 76 Fitchburg Dr. Edmond Patrick Donlan, 76, of Fitchburg and formerly of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2008 at the Highlands in Fitchburg surrounded by his beloved family. Ed was born on May 6, 1932 to Edmond J. and Rosella (Kenny) Donlan. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1950, Boston College in 1954 and achieved various other degrees during his lifetime, to include a Doctorate in Educational Administration, also from Boston College. Ed dedicated over thirty years of his life to education and retired as the superintendent of schools for the North Middlesex Regional School District. Following his retirement, Ed worked in real estate and continued teaching at Mount Wachusett Community College, Fisher Junior College and Fitchburg State College. Dr. Donlan was a devoted family man, who had a passion for the Catholic faith, local sports and the performing arts. In his earlier years, he coached and was a Scout Master for his children. Ed was very actively involved as a performer in numerous local theatre and singing groups. He was an avid Boston College football and basketball fan, a season ticket holder for close to fifty years. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen Hogan Donlan of Fitchburg, formerly of Roslindale, MA; and eight of his children, Paul Donlan and his wife Janel of South Boston, Lynn Dubinsky and her husband Robert of Hopkinton, Kevin Donlan and his wife Kathy of Fall River, Denise Donlan of Methuen, Dennis Donlan and his wife Beth of Leominster, Sean Donlan and his wife Kristen of Haddam, CT, Brendan Donlan of Fitchburg, and Erin Donlan Schubmehl and her husband Michael of Ashburnham. He was predeceased by his son Mark. Ed is also survived by his sisters, Mary Richards and Julie McNabb of Cohasset; and his brothers, Herbert Donlan of South Dennis and Michael Donlan of West Roxbury. Ed leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a large extended family. DONLAN A Funeral mass will be held at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg, MA on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highlands Long Term Care Center, in memory of Ed Donlan, 2nd Floor Resident; c/o the Highlands activities department, 335 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg is directing arrangements.
