Kauko M. Haapala

Kauko M. Haapala lifelong Ashby resident; 85 Ashby Kauko M. Haapala, 85, died Monday, November 24, 2008 at Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, after a brief illness. Mr. Haapala was born in Monasson, Pennsylvania, August 25, 1923, a son of Manuel and Hilma Haapala and was a lifelong Ashby resident. Mr. Haapala worked over 40 years at the Simonds Saw & Steel Company in Fitchburg, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Fitchburg Rod & Gun Club and a life member of the Fitchburg Sportsman's Club. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillian M. (Bouchard) Haapala, two daughters; Judy L. Jacobson of Ocala, Florida and Samadhi C. Haapala of Athol, a son: Martin Haapala of Melbourne, Florida, five grandchildren; Brandon Smith, David Haapala, Wendy Fontaine, Darren Fuhs and Derek Fuhs. He also leaves four great grandchildren; Zachary Smith, Shannon Smith, Andrew Fuhs and Gavin Fuhs. HAAPALA Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
