She was born on May 6, 1910, in Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Clement and Melvina (Leclerc) Croteau. She came to live in the United States at the age of 5. She was predeceased by her husband, Albini Allain, who died in 1970.
Bertha was employed by Delisle Apron Co. for 15 years. She was a long-time member and communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church.
She leaves her beloved children, three daughters, Louise Carbone and her husband, Ernie, of South Yarmouth, Cecile DeBettencourt and her husband, Robert, of Leominster, and Doris Clow, also of Leominster; her son, Dr. John Allain and his wife, Susan, of Weston. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces; three sisters, Sr. Clemence Croteau of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam, Conn., Rachel Desmarais in Ayer, and Antoinette Leger and her husband, Donald, of Fitchburg.
ALLAIN -- The funeral will be held from the Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, on Tuesday, Oct. 2, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St. Leominster. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours at the funeral home are on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady of the Lake Church Building Fund, 1400 Main St. Leominster, MA 01453 or to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, c/o Development Office, 72 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260.

My parents Bill & Elise McCarthy were friends of Bertha and Benny and I know had many great times together. Today they are all together again.
