He was born in Exeter, N.H., on Sept. 19, 1932, the son of Harold and Edith (Beals) Putnam and had lived in Winchendon for seven years.
Dan worked for 35 years as a cement mason for Local 1 in Springfield. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also loved his dogs. He proudly served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper from 1950-1953. Before moving to Winchendon, he and his wife, Doris, were residents of New Ipswich, N.H., for 35 years.
He leaves his loving wife of 52 years, Doris M. (Babineau) Putnam; a son, Paul D. Putnam and his wife, Josephine, of Fitchburg; a daughter, Diane M. Butler and her husband, Daniel, of Phillipston; a brother, Frank Putnam of Oklahoma; a sister, Donna Lawton of Florida; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. A sister, Gloria Shillings, predeceased him.
PUTNAM -- Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St. The Rev. Jackson L. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours in the funeral home will be on Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Worcester County Sherriff’s Office K9 Unit, Attention: Lt. Mark Kent, 5 Paul X, Tivnan Drive, West Boylston, MA 01583.
