Sean A. Silva Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Before he joined the Army, Pvt. Sean Silva researched the job options and signed up with a description in hand of the work he wanted to do. Silva was a cavalry scout, going on reconnaissance missions. "He wanted to be out doing things. He told us he didn''t want to be sitting behind a desk," said Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Sloan of the Army''s Roseville, Calif., recruiting office. The 23-year-old Silva, who grew up in El Sobrante, Calif., and lived in Roseville, was one of two soldiers killed in Baghdad on Oct. 9 in what the military said was an ambush. He was based at Fort Polk, La. Silva''s father, Richard, said he tried to talk his son out of enlisting, and his mother, Shirley Cowan, said she worried that he was dispatched to Iraq within weeks of boot camp. "But as far as he was concerned, he said, ''Mom, I''m ready," she said.

Sean,
Honey, it has been twenty years and yet every October 7th I still remember your call. I did not write, because this year as you know this October 9th I came. I made you a promise and I will carry that til we meet again. I am writing today, because as usual you find your way to say hello.
I hope you liked the Mala, and Papa-007 was honored to meet you, as I explained, he was in Vietnam. David was not expecting what he saw, though I have told him and shown him pictures. Once you are there though, it is very different. Seeing fresh flowers warmed my heart.
It still hurts and I have never been the same, you changed me, and that's a good thing. I share your journey and comfort those I can when they tell me where they have been. Thank you for being you. Thank you for what you did. Thank you for what you do. Simply, thank you. I am always your Paige.

Warmth and hope...

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Sean Anthony Silva US Army Private.

Sean,
You are never far away, and I know that you are able to see what wonderful things are happening with your family! It is 15 years now, and it will always feel like yesterday, but today I remind myself of the young child who became a boy, who grew into a man, who made a difference in people's lives. I remember you, and I smile, as you are loved, and always were loved, unconditionally!
Love you.....mom.

To Pvt. Sean A. Silva:
Thank you for your service to our country. Although I had never met you, I feel that you will forever be a part of our family and am so grateful and saddened by you sacrifice.
Please know that my husband and I decided to lay our son to rest near you because we felt comforted knowing he was next to a fallen soldier, or more so, a big brother. Our son is Alden Brock and he was swept away by a flash flood in New Mexico while on a 79 mile hike at Philmont Scout Ranch. He was only 13 years old. I hope that you know how honored we are to have Alden (Philmont's Fallen Scout) next to one our nation's military best. Your family will be in my prayers and fresh flowers will be placed with you often.

Sean honey, it's been 11 years now and the tears still fall at this time. Tomorrow I turn 43 and and you would be 34 now. It's hard to believe it's been that long. Hope you liked the flowers when I came to visit last year...couldn't miss your ten year. I still think about your phone call on the 7th. I was so surprised to hear from you. Then sadly I remember getting the news on the 9th just like it was yesterday. You are always in my heart and I am forever proud of you. I still have your coin (even took it to the moving wall), and yes I still keep a memorial for you up in my home. I hope you are at peace and to honor your memory I try always to stop and shake the hands of our military, both past and present and say thank you. I hope that makes you smile because I really miss making you blush.

In Memory of Sean ~ (Debra Estep)

October 10, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Sean, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I work in Rancho Cordova and I have seen a car parked in my employers parking lot with a bumper sticker bearing your name. I often wondered about who you were and what relationship the driver of the car has with you. All I can go by is the adornment of yellow ribbons and positive troop mesages on it and with that, I know that the person in the car sure cares for you deeply. My heart goes out to them. I have shed a tear for you today as I enter this message on this memorial website and I am able to put a face on the hero. I don't know you but I am sure you were a terrific young man and a gift to this country. May your memory be forever. God Bless our troops."

Sean was a really neat kid.I worked with him at Home Depot, and, was one of his supervisors on the front end. I still remember him always making special trips to Burger King for his chicken, extra mayo, and cheese sandwhiches. He would also go to McDonald's when the girls on the front end would request it. Sean holds a special place in my heart because he came to see me in the hospital back in July 2000-when I had given birth to my son Hunter. He was always involved in everything, and wanted to be a part of everything. My condolences go out to his family! We will always remember this fine young man who fought for our country.....

I would like to express my deep sorrow for your loss. As a veteran of the 1st Gulf War, I can imagine somewhat of the pain and grief all of you must be going through. It troubles me to know what has happened to Sean and all the others over there. Please know that I, and many others, are so gratefull for your family and for Seans' courage and commitment.
