An authentic and genuinely kind hearted individual. Im honored to have known you, to have experienced your friendship and grateful to hold and share memories of you. Thanks for the laughs, the sailing, and offering the (dry!) clothes off your back (like Rosie said :))
You are missed and remembered fondly,

I never met Capt. Harris I was out of USMC while she was still a sophomore at Annapolis.
There key words I read in the article to know that she died with honor and doing what she loved and supporting combat operations.
I was airwing too (fixed wing ejection seat mechanic)
Those key words were. Marine, Pilot and Swampscott, MA....(I was born in Ounn and lived in Swampscott during my early years.
RIP Capt Harris and your sacrifice will not be forgotten by this Marine...(Semper Fi Ma’am!).

Jen,
We got through the holidays again....missing you so very much. The pandemic is still with us, so, sadly, we still haven't been to your paradise. The stretch of time from your birthday through to February 7 is always difficult. We call them the dark days because it's all the holidays without you and we miss the light that you were.
Thank you for all of the signs you send us so we know your are with us always. Inspired by your compassionate heart we decorated the yard for Christmas, to bring a little cheer to everyone who walked by. We hung beautiful red, white and green ornaments, starfish and snow flakes on the beech tree, lights around the tree trunk and Santa coming down the chimney on the front door. I hung a " Believe" Santa sign by the front door. We got such enjoyment watching people's faces smile as they walked by.
We're waiting for the Covid vaccine so that we can start to return to "normal" life....although it's never going to be life as we knew it before the pandemic. Hopefully we can get to CA for Uncle's birthday....that would be the best gift ever for him! Meanwhile, we'll try to keep being positive. Know how much you are loved....and NEVER forgotten.

Jen, a day does not go by that I don't think about you. I love the signs that you send that you are always with me, especially the butterflies and doves. We are missing your paradise so much in these crazy pandemic times! We feel your spirit there constantly when we are there. I love keeping up with your friends...it makes me feel like I have a little piece of you. Love and miss you forever!

Oh my goodness, Jen. What an unbelievable time in Ohio celebrating you at the International Women's Air & Space Museum. How it all came together is incredible.....but you know that! I met the most wonderful people...all there to honor you and the Purple Foxes.
We visited all of the memorials for veterans and the fallen. So touching.
We also visited the Pro Football Hall of Fame and there, on their huge sign, was your picture with a welcome for me! Amazing private tour. I'm so grateful for my Ohio friends.
Thanks for continuing to give me signs that you are with me....no matter where I go.
The holidays are hard without you, but we know that you would like us to live without sadness in our hearts and to celebrate life! We'll do that this weekend as we celebrate Chrissy's wedding!!! We'll carry you with us in our hearts.
Love and miss you forever, Jen. Linda

Hey Jen,
Time flies way too fast these days! Thinking back to our busy summer and remembering how you hung around the yard every day....fluttering here and there! I think you were telling us that you approved the new front yard complete with a new little paver patio, perfect for morning coffee or afternoon cold beverages, and with our seashell pathways and starfish and sand dollar stepping stones and all of the beach rock...funny that we had to buy beach rock when we live at the beach!! Uncle did an amazing job. Beautiful impatiens and begonias ringed the trees...we call it our secret garden! We have seen cardinals, too....all reminders of you beautiful spirit, which we miss sooooo much!!
Exciting news...Chrissy is getting married in December! We're going to stay at Auntie's for her wedding shower in October. Really looking forward to the festivities, just wish you were here with us in person rather that in spirit. I know you'll be there.
Can't wait to be in your paradise soon! It's always sooo comforting. We'll be attending Jared's Golf Tournament fundraiser for the Seven Stars Foundation. We hope you like the idea of us helping send military kids to camp in your name....I'm sure you love it!
Watch over Dad and please help him transition to living where he can be watched over, rather than at home, alone. It's not safe for him. Uncle has given all he has to give to help him, but now it's time for Uncle to have a worry-free life. It's been a loooooong time, as you know!!!
Thank you for all of the new friends we've made because of you...truly a gift, and we appreciate every one!
So, until next time, keep watching over us and sending us messages that you're with us. We love and miss you soooo much!!

Capt Harris...I've spent so much time online trying to learn more about you this past year. You really are an inspiration! I wish I'd had the opportunity to get to know you before you died. I'm a Navy vet myself, but during my service women were not allowed to be pilots. I wrote a poem in your honor, and a song has been written from my words that is really good, really memorable. Another friend who is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker is making a video of your photos for us to put the music to...even Gov. Baker has recorded a voice over for it! It's almost done, and I'm sure you'd be proud of it. We're so very proud of you! The nation lost one "best and brightest" when you were killed. I've shed tears thinking about you, thinking of your family. It's amazing how your story affects people! Thinking of you makes me stop for a moment every day and think about what's important, what counts.
We'll be attending your memorial service again for Memorial Day. I wouldn't dream of missing it. I hope that, at some point, you realized just how much you were loved. It certainly shows at the Jennifer J. Harris Square! We'll be singing again for you, and hope you're able to see us from above...we'll make you smile! You'll never be forgotten. Thank you for your service.

Jen,
It was so amazing to be with some of your Purple Fox family this past weekend, on the 12 anniversary of you getting your angel wings. I know how proud you are of all of them. We soaked up the stories and love they shared with us and were happy to meet some of your friends we hadn't met before. Truly incredible American heroes. Oh my gosh, Jen! You are soooo not forgotten! It amazes me that you continue to inspire people....even those who have never met you. So many things done in your honor or memory. We just got back from your Paradise and we know you were with us every minute!! Thank you for taking such good care of Uncle and me while we were there! We sure do miss seeing 46's fly up the coast, but we always see helicopters and butterflies and think of you. ...and know you are watching over us. Your friends have had some major accomplishments in their military careers, which I know make you proud....they are older now, but you are "forever young". Jen,
I got the chance to visit your you this past week. It brought back so many amazing memories. I want you know that I am thinking of you. I still remember the first time I met you and the conversation we had for quite a while. I sincerely appreciate all the help you gave me when I was just coming into aviation from the infantry. You took time out of your studies and schedule to help me and I will be forever grateful to you. You are sorely missed. Until we meet again, may God bless you and keep you. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Jen,
I think of you every day, as you know, but tonight I'm thinking of you on this eve of the day you became our Guardian Angel with a heart filled with so many emotions. February 7 was the worst day of our lives, but every day since then you've shown us that you are always with us. It amazes me that you continue to inspire even people who never met you and it lightens my heavy heart. You are never forgotten and continue to be loved by all of those whose hearts you touched. Jen,
I know you are smiling....I still can't believe that your USNA Shipmates on the sailing team renamed the Fall Women's Regatta in your honor....after all these years! We had a wonderful weekend meeting your teammates and visiting USNA. When I Googled Jen Harris Regatta the next day it said "Day one of the Jen Harris Memorial started with a lovely south breeze at 8-10 knots that built as the day went on. Despite boat show traffic, a physical readiness test, and road closures, it proved to be one of the best days of college sailing we have seen at navy in some time." I know you were there in spirit.
One of your flight school instructors was there telling wonderful stories about you both in flight school, WTI and in Iraq. We loved hearing those! Hugs from some of your teammates were extra special.
Thanks for making sure the weather was perfect for some great family time together in MD. We sure do miss you and are sooooo proud!!
Love you forever!!

Well, Jen, there must be a nice reunion in Heaven since Nana joined Apa, mom and you. Wow...the reality of the whole family nucleus being gone is setting in. It doesn't seem possible. How different holidays will be from now on. Ungle did an amazing job caring for Apa first, then mom, and finally Nana...for sooo long. He is the most compassionate person I've ever known...and you were just like him. He taught you well. Now we'll start a new chapter in our lives...he's earned the right to some fun!
Missin' you so very much. Love you forever!! Keep sending me those signs, I need them more than ever!!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas in Heaven, Jen. I was with the cherubs and had lots of fun..and Uncle was with Nana. He's there for her 24/7 now. She's been in and out of the hospital and now has a hospital bed at home....poor Nana, at 92 and having lost her husband, daughter and granddaughter she just wants to go to be with you but just can't seem to get there. It's so difficult to watch...and so hard on Uncle who is doing an amazing job at "doctoring". The in home services we have for her are impressed with his care. Uncle is the most selfless person I've ever met...but then again, you know that. And you took after him.
I can't believe it's going to be 10 years in February! They are going to have a memorial service in Hawaii for the crew of Morphine 12 and the SEAL who gave his life taking out the insurgents who took down Morphine 12. We will be with them in spirit.
I'm looking forward to being in your paradise soon..if Nana is okay. I'm torn. Uncle wants me to check on everything. It's been 4 months, but I feel guilty leaving him alone with caring for Nana. Please give him a helping hand...and if you can, help Nana get to you. Peace for many. I love you, Jen...Every day I look at the Mother's Day card you gave me that reads:
"You're like a mom to me,
You've done things
a mother would,
you've listened and you've cared,
just like a mom to me.
My thanks for all we've shared.
Happy Mother's Day."
It sits in a frame by my computer.
Thank you for the signs you give me, please never stop!!
Love you forever!

Hi Jen,
Wow...Uncle could use a little help from you from Heaven. You know he's taking care of Nana, but my goodness, things have not gone smoothly getting services for her and Uncle is really stressed....so I missed writing here for your birthday. :-(
Since it's the Marine Corps' 241st birthday, I'll say Happy Birthday, Marine for both occasions!
I'm thinking of the old days when I made you chocolate birthday cakes filled with M&Ms...and the school project of creating a replica of the Swampscott library out of gingerbread. After I shared the gingerbread recipe, you wanted to do it all by yourself..with me just being there for support...and it was on display at the library for years. ;-)
Missing you every day. Please help Uncle...and hopefull I can get to your Paradise soon to check things out. Help me get there, too. ;-) I'm asking a lot today...and it's your birthday!!
Have fun celebrating the birthdays with the Marines in Heaven!
Love you forever,
Linda

Hi Jen,
We laid Mom to rest beside you. Her service was beautiful, just like she was. Your Marines came to our rescue as pallbearers and gave Mom the utmost respect both at her wake and her funeral. It felt like a piece of you was actually there. I know you were proud. They have done so much for Mom and Dad. The day was gorgeous...bright sunshine and warm, the view from Anthony's Cafe was spectacular with sparkling water views and boats in the harbor. It felt good to be in the room where we've presented your scholarships since that was Mom's first thought of how to continue your legacy.
It must be so wonderful to have Mom there with you, and all to yourself for a while. Give her a hug for me.
Love you forever,
Linda xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I think of you often Jenn Harris, you have such a warm spirit that is still felt. I remember when you used to get all up in my face during plebe summer with such a look of determination that even intimidated me, a 6'3 240lb guy. However, I sensed and felt your care behind the yelling and barking, and this is something I really admired and reflect on. After that plebe year when you opened up to me, I saw how such a thoughtful, inviting, and downright cool person you were. I really enjoyed experiencing that transformation of our relationship, from being your peon to becoming your friend, and I really appreciated being your friend. I remember the news flash in my office about the incident that shortened your time here, and without even knowing it was you, felt weird and a need to follow that story. When I learned it was you, my heart sank and it affected me deeply. It still affect me to this day. However, I do know that all of our time here is short and temporary, and that I will see you soon.

February 8, 2015
Oh what a day, Jen! I knew you were with me from the moment I started my day! So many loving remembrances from your friends. Today I went to cheer on the Wolfpack Wheelchair basketball team in your honor thinking what better way to spend the day than to be with warriors like the ones you rescued, living life with zest...they won both games. Then we went to a free concert by Gary Sinise and the Lt.Dan Band and had a private back stage meeting with him. So cool...he remembered narrating Stephanie Hanson's story of the two HMM-364 helicopters shot down the same day, 38 years apart. Touching. The afternoon ended by meeting General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., Commandant of the Marine Corps and his wife. They were sooo nice. Down to earth and from MA! Thanks for making this such an inspiring day. You are NEVER forgotten and loved by all! Love and miss you!

I have seen girls who dream big with all those fantasy story which they have been studying from childhood, want to look beautiful as Bride all through her life, married, loved, comforted, pampered, kids to call her mom, until her grey hair she wants to be the one to rule any body's heart that she knows of. In midst of all these Jenny was a girl to fly for her country protecting her family, neighbors, country men who can chill out at bar drinking some beer. She lives forever. Jenny Rocks.

Your pic still hangs right by my desk..in my new office here in Hawaii..can you believe it..my twilight tour for 30 in Hawaii. I was out on a run at lunch and a lone 46 flew by...I know it was you telling me you are right there running beside me! Miss that smile...!! Thank you for being my friend....Semper Fi

Hi Jen,
The town of Swampscott continues to pay tribute to you and others from Swampscott who have given their lives in service to our country. On Veteran's Day a beautiful monument in a beautiful spot was dedicated in your memory. Many townspeople were there to support mom and dad. So very grateful for them. Love and miss you sooo much! ~ Linda

Hi Jen,
We celebrated your birthday on Tuesday by decorating your resting place....I think you like it. It's so nice to hear from your special friends. You, sweet girl, will never be forgotten! We even had chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (Uncle's idea!!) with red, white and blue sprinkles on top since it was election day. You probably already know, but your Goddaughter, Daly, celebrated her shared birthday with you with chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting...and had an extra one for you....and Tommy and Tyler Harris V. sang happy birthday to you too! Always missed, always loved and never forgotten!!
Lots of Love,
Linda xoxoxoxoxo

Hi Jen,
What an amazing time at the Bell Casting event for the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower! You were honored so beautifully. Your wings, along with those of your crew, all melted together with bronze to make the clapper that will make that bell ring with a joyful noise. So special. Your Marine Corps family made us feel loved. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Missin' you.
Lots of love, as always,
Linda xoxo

I just happened to see a photo of Jen on the Papasmoke site, which promted me to search for more info. I am in complete awe, and in tears as I just learned more about Jen's life and service. Before today, I knew nothing of Jennifer Harris. Today I was enriched by her story and photos. Tomorrow I will think about this strong, brave and beautiful angel!

Merry Chrismas, Jennifajean! We miss you so much, but love hearing from your friends this Holiday season. Uncle and I have taken over the Holiday cooking....I fried the calamari and the "shrimps". ;-) Nana called Italy...they use electric fryers these days...and here we are in the good ol' USA frying by hand! Ouch! Uncle is making index cards of the old family recipes so they won't be forgotten...just like you are never forgotten for a second! You are with us always...everywhere and every minute! Love you forever, girl!
