I first meet Josh in the summer of 2004 at a flight school in Eastman, Georgia. We both started helicopter training at the same time. I really liked him a lot. But only after about a few months of flight training, he decided that he wanted to go a different rout, because he talked a lot about going to the military and doing it the right way (the military way) he seemed very happy about it. After he left the flight program, I always wondered if he made it to the military. I always wondered . . . . Then one day in 2012, as I was leaving the checkout line at Wal-Mart, and to my surprise I saw a picture of Josh on the wall of remembrance of the fallen in the war against terrorism. And then my heart sank, for then I knew what had happened to my old classmate. In the picture I saw a solider, a patriot, the look of a man that was proud to serve his country. I am truly horned to have met him. I am truly thankful for his sacrifice for this country and to me, thank you Josh. I'll pray for your family here on out, and wish them the best. For the journey seems long, but goes so fast. We'll all on that day, will reunite at last. Thank you Josh.

Dear Reeves family,
My son served with your Josh at the time of his death. He wears his name on his wrist to this day. Every day your son is remembered for what a special person he was and for the sacrifice that he made. Right now, he is being held by our Lord, who has wiped away all of his tears and brought only joy to him. As I cried for you and your son tonight, I pray the Lord brings you peace. Keep in mind that all of these years later, we still remember, and we still care.

to the Reeves family. my name is SGT Baez Yonathan, I am currently serving my second tour in Iraq. I served with Josh in my first tour, we conducted over 100 combat operations. I remember him every day in my life, I don't know if you guys know this, but when I was shot by a Sniper on June 11, 2007 CPL Reeves was my TC (truck Commander), he immediately reached for me and pulled me off the turret, I was bleeding and all I remember is Josh saying " hey baez you got blood coming out of your forearm" I then realized that I had been hit by an unknown round, then he kept me down I wanted to get back up and return fire, but he said "no stay down he's got you on his sight
" stay down baez" that same day we were struck by and IED, it was the first time that CPL Reeves and Myself were hit after so many missions, there was something about him that I respected, we were the same rank but he was my leader, that day we almost got kill, we were hit by and IED and he got a mild concussion, that day will always be a day that I will never forget, Reeves I know that I wasn't there on that Afternoon Sept 22, and I hope that everyone who knew you will never forget WHAT AN AMAZING SOLDIER YOU ARE, to me you are and will always be My Ranger buddy like we used to call each other, I have many pictures of CPL Reeves I will love to share them with his Family my Email [email protected] contact me and i will send them thanks (1st Platoon Death Dealer D co. 2nd BN 3rd IN regt (RANGERS) will never forget you. be with god my friend.

Happy Veterans Day Josh. For me it's not a day for us all, but a day to remember you and all of our brothers in arms that made that sacrifice. Today I am considering taking the whole family out to Oconee Veterans Park to see what this day means and why we all should be thankful for the men and women that served. I only recently realized that we were stationed at the same base over there just at different times, I left that base in November of 2006. I just barely missed you then. I really miss you now though. The crazy things we'd come up with and our childish plans still make me chuckle. I miss ya brother, see ya soon.

Hi Son, Leslie and Jackson will be here soon. We're very excited. Veteran's Day is Wednesday. Your mom, Joni, and I dropped by your grave yesterday. I always feel closer to you when I'm there. I love you son. I miss you more than I can say. I'm sure you greeted the soldiers from Ft. Hood. I know what their families are going through; I wish I could do something for them. You are my son, my hero, and my example. One day I'll give you a big hug. That will be a great day.

Hi Son,
Yesterday your family gathered around your grave; it's still very strange. I think of you each day. I miss you. I know I'll continue to miss you until we embrace when I go home. We received many emails, cards, and calls. Your friends remember you. I smile when I remember our time here on earth. I've learned to deal with your death. I know you're happy and healthy. What more could a father want for his son?
I love you Josh.
I'll see you later.

Jackson,
I knew your Daddy from the time that we were both in 5th grade. I had changed classes in the middle of the year, and he sat across from me at lunch. He became my friend because he saw someone who needed one, and we spent nearly every recess walking around the outside of the playground talking, laughing, and making fun of people. He always was kind, and gave of himself when he didn't have to. He would do things like come and help you on a bad job site (Sandy Springs house job in 1997/8) at the drop of a hat, make you do crazy things like jump into a pool fully clothed (also house demo job in 97/98). He loved to have big cars or trucks that he would tinker with, and loved to drive. He could eat like a champion, and slept like it was going out of style. He did Civil War Reenactments with me, too. One very funny story is when we went to Gettysburg. He played dead, and another soldier picked him up by his shirt and bounced him from one end of the field to the other. He had a long goatee and long hair then, and all you could see was all that hair. It makes me laugh every time that I remember it.
Jackson, your Dad was something else and was in this world for far too little time. He loves you so much, and I know that you will be just like him. I hope that we can talk some day about how your Daddy was, and I can tell you more stories about him. He was the best friend that I could have ever had, and I loved him like he was one of my own brothers. I know that you will love like he did, will be just as crazy at times (much to the chagrin of your mother and grandmother, and be the kind of man that your Daddy was.

So many memories of Josh come to mind on this day - from the carefree young man whom we first met in Leslie's dorm at UGA to the loving husband, expectant father and dedicated soldier whom we came to know and love so dearly. I have grown to love the Reeves family. Josh was my patient and I enjoyed getting to know him. He had a wonderful outlook on life and was proud to serve our country. This is an amazing family. The Reeves have taken in so many children and blessed their lives. I have enjoyed so much my friendship with Jared, Michael and Joni. I do not have words to express how priviliged I have felt to be close to Dr. and Mrs. Reeves and Leslie during this difficult time. I have seen the hand of the Lord in their lives and their faith and courage has been astounding to watch. They are so humble and kind. I love them. Leslie you are an angel. May God bless you and Jackson. I wish to thank all of the great people who have supported them. This is truly a great country. Thankyou to all of the men and women in our military and their families for the sacrifices they make on our behalf.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Joshua, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Mrs. Reeves,
I saw you yesterday at the Walk of Honor ceremony at Evergreen, but wanted you to have privacy to speak with others who lost family members. I am so glad Drew and Sheila chose to have Evan near his fellow heroes like Josh and Sgt. Flint. I pray your families can help each other through these difficult times.
On behalf of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, we want you to know how much we appreciate what Josh did for our country. Unfortunately, we often deal with tragedies, and understand the impact on the family. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is anything we can do for you.

I am the mother of Evan Marshall, recently killed in Mosul with four other soldiers. My heart is broken. I wanted him buried near your son, and I visit them every day. I know your excruciating pain and want to get to know you. We have an unwanted, eternal bond now, and perhaps we can help each other. Drew and I plan to attend the Walk of Honor event on Saturday at 3:00. You may not know about that, but you may have noticed the new flags. I was distressed when the entries slowed down in Evan's guest book. I worried that his ultimate sacrifice would be forgotten. I felt I should tell you how very much I grieve your son's sacrifice. They are heroes.

My heart is so grieved to hear the news about Joshua. Words cannot express the thoughts of appreciation, respect, love and grief I have for your son and your family. I pray God will give you comfort and peace in your heart during this most difficult time. My sons also wish to send you their condolences. I surved with Josh in IRAQ. We have been in the same company togther for the past 2 yrs. At Fort Riley we lived 3 doors down from each other. I made a promice to him about 2 yrs ago I had hoped I didn't have to keep. That I would talk at his memeorial as I did. I loved him like a brother and I mourn his loss every day even today. I hope that his son, Jackson, carries Josh's friendly funny and helpful traits. I am so truely lost with out him. We did lots of things together and I will never forget him all the days that I live. The only person I know that knocks on a window to gain acess to a room. I still wait for that knock that never comes. I proudly wear his name tape on my ACUs and his 550 cord braclet and I pray that he watch over all of us here. Josh my friend I love you I miss You and you will never be forgotten. I hope that our paths will cross again and that I see you in Heaven soon. Very soon. To Leslie, Jackson and the rest of the Reeves family. I served with Joshua Reeves here in Iraq. I was his First Sergeant. He was an excellent soldier, a great role model, and an exceptional man. He became one of my Squad Leaders due to his leadership style; always leading by example. Being an older soldier I was able to have some great conversations with him and was proud to have served with him. My prayers and thoughts go to all his family. He is still guiding us, but doing it from above with God. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To the family,
I deeply regret not being able to attend the services for Josh. He was one of the best friends a guy could ask for growing up. I will never forget Youth Conferences, Dances, Civil War re-enactments, Christmas parades and the list will go on and on. Josh was one of my brothers both in church and in arms. I will never forget what effect he had on me as a young man growing up and as a HERO to our great nation. My heartfelt sorrow goes out to all of the Reeves family. Hold your heads high, your son/brother/husband was indeed a great influence on all the lives that he interacted with. His mere presence will be long missed but his memory is always as close as we allow it to be. God be with you all during your time of grieving.
Love,
Michael Campbell

Leslie, I remember the day Josh came to the unit, it was mid September. Josh right way impressed me with his professionalism and his maturity as a young soldier in the Army. He was a welcome edition to 1st Platoon Delta Company 2-16 INF. After that day we spent many hours together as he was my driver. Josh endured my antics as I being one to always want things to be better for my Soldiers. We always had a pact that he would tell me when enough was and to back off. I respected that, I respected him not just as a Soldier but a Man who had so many good things in his life. We shared many thoughts but they all came back to his love for You. I remember how excited he was to find out about the baby on the way. I remember the day you guys came to our house for Thanksgiving and how much Amy, I and our kids enjoyed your company. I will always cherish days like that. Amy and I will alway keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Amy and I will forever be greatful for the wonderful man he was. Just know that he lives on through your son and he will grow to understand someday just how much of a hero his father was. He will alway be every Soldiers hero. I am proud to have served along side your husband and Jacksons father and will never forget him for as long as I live. He is the true definition of sacrafice, brave in the face of danger and just one of the best persons I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He will not be forgotten. Again I am proud to have served with your husband and your sons father. May God watch over you Leslie and Jackson for all the days of your lives.

Josh, I don't think you ever realize while you are being sworn in, what a monumental step you are taking. I am forever thankful and indebted to you for your selfless service to our country. My children, as well as Jackson, will be better men for it. Your wife is a very lucky woman to have loved and been by you and your son will grow up to be an amazing man. (I guess some crushes never die lol)
I'll say goodbye to you for now, even though it just seems wrong to say goodbye to someone so young. Again thank you for everything, and I'll be seeing you...

My Dear Son, I don't think you realized how many lives you touched, how many people loved you, and how much you will be missed. I am grateful for your service; I am grateful you were my son. Like any father I have some regrets. I wish I had been more patient with you; I wish I could have protected you. I wish I could trade places with you. Your legacy will live on through your son and through the love of your family. I continue to pray for your friends who place themselves in harms way. Josh - I love you and I will miss you until the day I die. I am proud to be your father.
Love you son,
Dad

Our son, Brian, served with Joshua in 4th platoon, Delta Comapnay and was with him when he was killed. He called us to tell us on 9/24. He said they all tried their best to help Josh out, but it wasn't enough.
There are no words we can offer you to assuage the grief you feel. All we can offer is the comfort in knowing "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
May God comfort you and wrap you all in His loving arms.

James,Jean, Leslie, We love you more than we can express. Our hearts hurt with you and our tears flow freely.I told Leslie that it was so important to love and be loved..and what a blessing that is.One can never have those feelings taken away. You all have wonderful memories of YOUR making! James, what a wonderful father you are! Our boys enjoyed paint ball, scouts, and repelling with you and yours! I didn't always want to hear all about it. It was good enough that you all came home!
Jean, you truly are the heart of your home, the one who nurtures. My son, Reid, remembers so fondly his days with you as his den mother. If Sister Reeves planned it, it was FUN.What a blessing you are to our family and yours.
Leslie, you are a courageous young lady. We love you. Josh loved you and will look forward to the day when you can be reunited. What sweet pictures you have of the two of you!!Jackson, your Dad was a fine young man. He loved your Mom. He respected her and encouraged her. He would expect you as the little man of the house to love and respect her in his absence. Heavenly Father (and your Dad) will be helping you along your path. You have such a wonderful family. Your mommy and all those wonderful grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends who all want what is best for you. We love you little Jackson and will consider you one of ours. Our thoughts and prayers will ever be with you and yours.
