To the Mercier Family-
Everyone at Whelen wishes to extend their condolences, thoughts and prayers. I was fortunate enough to spend many moments with Deane at the track and talk about modifieds and the future of the Whelen Tour. I will miss him very much but I also celebrate his life and I am grateful for the wonderful times we spent together.

My condolences to the Mercer family. Deane's voice will always be something that I hear at any race. Since moving aways from CT, I have attended several local race tracks here in NC. I always imagine the sights and SOUNDS of Stafford Speedway. Whether it's the sound of Deane's voice or the familiar introductory playing of "Shaft." Thanks for all of the memories. I will do my part to make sure future generations don't get caught up in the commercialization of these events. Deane delivered the "small-town" atmosphere every Friday night and will surely be missed. We, as fans, shared a perspective and loved him for who he was. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Mercier family--you are in my thoughts from miles away.

To the Mercier Family,
Deane was truly a wonderful, genuine, down-to-earth person. I knew I could always look foward a warm friendly greeting on the nights I was singing the National Anthem or just stopping in to say hello. He truly will be missed by myself and the rest of the racing community. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Deane, it was great have known you as a friend and to have worked with you as fellow broadcasters. From studio work to HS football games, it was always fun. I will miss you.
Sadly though, tremendous talent that was unfortunately underutilized. What a set of pipes. May he rest in peace.

Deane was a real radio talent. We worked together at a couple of stations, and when I was PD at WREF in Ridgefield, Deane was my afternoon drive personality. I always enjoyed his company. Deane, say "hello" to all our other radio friends in that control room in the sky.

Having the pleasure announcing "The Cowboy's in the Building" (a catch phrase that stuck and caught on with the listeners) on saturday nights when Deane followed me on WEBE-108.
NASCAR races were always fun with Deane because everyone knew him and he wasn't hard to spot with his trademark Cowboy hat (which he had a few).
Deane will be missed.

Deane's voice will be missed but not as much as the man will be. I Will miss one of the nicer guys in broadcasting and autoracing. Thanks for the memories my friend.
