"To Those I Love And Those Who Love Me"

When I am gone, release me let me go.

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears.

I gave you my love. You can only guess

How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you have shown.

But now it's time I traveled on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for a while that we must part,

So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on,

So if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near,

And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear

All of my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone

I'll greet you with a smile, and say,

"Welcome Home"

Dear Josh: Two years are coming up and they sure have flown by. The memories of you are still as fresh and new as if you were still here. And you are...in my heart at least. Pippy has gotten so big. They still talk about "muddin'" and riding the bikes around the lake. They just can't forget you... guess because you were such a big kid at heart. My best memory is of your kindness. I remember how you wouldn't say one negative thing about anyone. You were a forgiving person, a very rare quality. As time passes, we will never forget you and the light that you brought to our lives.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Dear Joshua~
Boy do I miss you so much right now. Your birthday is coming up and I can't help but be sad that you would have been 25 years old. We would be in our mid-twenties, well me not till Dec. 30 but that is such a crazy thing to think of.
I miss you so much right now because I am having such a hard time and I miss my Best-Friend that knew exactly what to say to make me feel better or give me advice on what I should do. Gosh I miss not being able to just talk to you and see what fun stuff you were doing in training and you making sure I was doing well in school and bribing me with whatever purse I wanted if I got straight A's.
I guess all I can say is that I miss my friend and the person that use to know me like the back of their hand. You just knew how to handle me and it might not have been the best thing but you made the hard times just a little easier.
Just know that I am trying hard to be strong and happy because I know you would be pissed if you saw how well I am not doing right now. That is what everyone says when the conversation turns to you, "Michele, Josh would not want you to be sad he would want you to be happy and live your life." I just hate living it without you in my life. Just know that I am trying hard but I do have my days like today where I just don't understand why you had to live us so early. Well I better get back to school work to make you proud. Just know that I miss and love you very much!

Love,
Michele

Dear Joshua:
It's been a while since anyone has written you anything...so I thought I would send you a message to tell you that you are still in the hearts of many. I never truly realized what you did in those two weeks before your passing until I came across an entry on Crossfit. Wow!!! You were so fearless and brave...a true soldier dedicated to your brothers and to the freedom of everyone. I am so proud of you. You know you will never be forgotten...that's impossible. Always in my heart!

May 15th is almost here. It's unbelievable it has been one year since you passed away. You know...I still can't believe it sometimes. So many places I go, I can always think of a memory of being there with you. Songs I hear that we used to listen to...well most of the time I can't even bear to hear them. I hope you know there is still not a day that passes that I don't think of you several times or talk about you for that matter. I know they say time will heal. I'm still waiting because it feels like I lost you yesterday. Pip still remembers you, too. She always says your first and last name and tells me that you are in heaven and she is going to see you. It's cute, yet heartbreaking. I miss you and will see you again one day. Thank you for everything you did for me. With love always.

IT'S WITH TEARS IN MY EYES THAT I WRITE THIS ENTRY. I MET JOSH WHEN HE VISITED WITH MY SON DAN ON A SHORT LEAVE FROM FT. BRAGG. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME HE HAD BEEN TO CAPE COD SO DAN WANTED TO MAKE SURE HE HAD A GOOD TIME AND EXPERIENCED THE "LOCAL" TRADITIONS. HE WENT TO HIS 1ST "PIG ROAST",FEASTED ON LOBSTER & CLAM CHOWDER. PLAYED HORSESHOES,& PARTIED WITH ALL OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS. HE MADE A POINT OF TELLING ME WHAT A GOOD TIME HE HAD & WHAT AN INSPIRATION DAN WAS TO HIM. WHEN THEY HAD TO LEAVE,WE GAVE EACH OTHER A LONG WARM EMBRACE.HE PROMISED TO VISIT AGAIN AS SOON AS HE COULD AND THAT WE WERE NOW "FAMILY". I GOT A CALL ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEK-END FROM MY SON,WHO TOLD ME THE DEVASTATING NEWS OF JOSH'S DEATH. I COULDN'T TALK.WE WERE HAVING ANOTHER ONE OF OUR "PIG ROASTS" THAT JOSH ENJOYED SO MUCH.AS I CONTINUE TO WEEP AS I NOW WRITE I WISH I COULD SAY WORDS TO COMFORT YOU; BUT I CAN'T.EMOTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS AND I FEEL AS IF I LOST MY OWN CHILD. YES, JOSH MADE THAT MUCH OF AN IMPRESSION ON ME. JOSH CAME UP IN CONVERSATION WHEN HE CALLED TO WISH ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON AUGUST 8TH.HE ASKED ME IF I CONTACTED HIS MOM ,BUT I SAID I DIDN'T KNOW HOW. I'M SO THANKFUL THIS QUEST BOOK WAS FORWARDED TO ME SO I CAN EXPRESS MY DEEP FEELING OF LOSS. I TOO THINK OF JOSH ALL THE TIME AND CAN'T SEEM TO PUT THE GREIF BEHIND ME.THESE FEELINGS CAN ONLY BE A TESTAMENT OF WHAT A FINE INDIVIDUAL JOSH WAS. HIS SMILE IS ETCHED PERMANENTLY IN MY MINDS EYE AND I WILL TAKE THESE EMOTIONS WITH ME TO MY OWN GRAVE. YES.JOSH IS A HERO BUT HE WAS SO MUCH MORE.I AM THANKFUL AND TAKE COMFORT FROM SOME OF THE ELOQUENT ENTRIES IN THIS;JOSHUA WHITAKER'S QUEST BOOK.I JUST WISH HE WAS STILL ALIVE.PEACE & GOD BLESS TO ALL WHO MOURN HIM.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

No words are adequete to the family and friends. We are friends of His uncle and our hearts go out to him and Joshua's mother.
Greater love hath no man than to give his life for his country. How proud we are for all our service men. I remember them daily in prayer that this war should end and bring back our fine men.
God Bless America and God Bless the family of Joshua. He is resting now in the arms of Jesus who also suffered for us on the cross. Amen

It has been 23 days since you passed away. Not one morning do I wake that you are not the first thing I think of. Waking up is the hardest for me. I wake up with the sickest feeling in my stomach. I guess it's the feeling that this is real, no matter how much I want it to be a bad dream. You are the last thing I think about before I fall asleep in hopes that I will have a beautiful dream about you. Not more than a few seconds pass throughout my day that I don't beg God to give you back to me. I want you to know that even though I can never see you or touch you or hear your beautiful voice again that I am very proud of you. You are my true warrior for the rest of my life and hopefully after. Chloe and Piper really miss and love you. Piper still wants you to come home. It's hard for her to understand where you are. I tell her you are in Heaven where I know you are but she's too young to grasp that. I will never forget the day you left for Afghanistan. There was no stranger feeling than looking into your eyes and wondering if I ever would again. I was crying my eyes out and you told me to just be strong and you'd be back before I knew it. I want you to know that the last year and a half have been the best of my life. I have never experienced the love that we shared in such a short time, nor will I ever again. You are one in a million and the most beautiful person I have ever known. I love you Josue and I meant it when I said you are my beginning and my end. "Honey you are a rock upon which I stand." Thank you for loving me the way you did. I will keep that with me for the rest of my life.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn your death. We honor your commitment to freedom and your sacrifice for us all. We know you served with the best of the best. May God Bless you always and all who knew and loved you.

We honor your last full measure of devotion. You will never be forgotten.

In the long and honored history of America
There are names that shine like beacons in the night
The Patriots whose vision gave us meaning
Who kept the lamp of freedom burning bright

In the long and honored history of America
There are those that paid the last and final price
Who were called upon by chance, or desperate circumstance
To make the ultimate sacrifice

A grateful nation bows its head in sorrow
And in thanks for guaranteeing our tomorrow
The last full measure of devotion
That's what they gave to the cause

The last full measure of devotion
And though they cannot hear our applause
We honor them forever and keep alive their story
Pay tribute to their lives and give them all the glory

The last full measure of devotion
Beyond the call of duty were their deeds
The last full measure of devotion
They gave themselves to serve the greater need

And for those who did survive
And came back home alive
They join in praise of comrades who were slain
And highly resolved, most highly resolved
That these dead shall not have died in vain
