I knew "Stony" through the Lincoln High School years as a friend and exciting basketball athlete to watch. He was liked by everyone who knew him. His family, Joanne, Gretchen, and family are in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

Stony was one of the most fun-loving friends at Lincoln High School back in the '50's. He'll truly be missed. Condolences to all of his family and friends.

What a great guy--husband, principal, role model, and the list goes on and on. I was priviliged to work with Bob at WW and then at TJ. It was a great experience. My children both went to school under his principalship at TJ and both admire him greatly. What a great loss to the family and the community.

My prayers are with the family as they try to remember the good moments, hours, days and years spent with Bob Hantel.

God Bless You All

I worked with Mr. Hantel for five years at TJ after he offered me my first job working for Decatur Public Schools. I have been forever grateful to him for giving me that opportunity. I will never forget his smile and upbeat personality.

I met Bob at Cancer Care and he made me laugh every time we spoke. He always had that twinkle in his eye and a sheepish grin on his face. He amazed me with his stories of all the things he had done with his life. I know that he wiil be greatly missed by his family, as he always spoke highly of them. My deepest sympathy to the Hantel family on the loss of a great man.

I taught with Bob at Woodrow Wilson and later worked with Bob as a Dean at Thomas Jefferson. We remained friends all of these years. I am volunteering in Sitka, Alaska or I would be at the service. My thoughts and prayers go out to Heidi and Gretchen and their families. Peace and courage.

Having worked with Bob at Jefferson Middle School, I have fond memories. Yes, we had our differences and bumped heads occasionally, but never any grudges or long term misunderstandings. Bob was a friend and will be missed by many. May the family be surrounded by the love of God, family and friends.

I read, with sadness, that my childhood hero had passed away. Only 12 years my senior, he was the epitome of "cool" to a 10 year old boy. I can still picture Bob getting warmed up for a softball game across from the old High School on Broadway. I read, with great interest, his life's story in the Decatur paper and now wish I had met him as an adult. I grew up in Lincoln - my father was the dentist, Bob Goebel - and became a principal in the Cowden-Herrick Schools, just 45 minutes south of Decatur. My 2nd son will get to carry on the school administrator torch as he teaches at Eisenhower High School and is graduating this summer in Ed. Admin. from EIU. My prayers to the Hantel family - you lost him too soon.
