It was April or May of 1960.... I was about to graduate from Bishop O'Dowd HS in Oakland, CA. After reviewing my application to SMC, John came to our home in Castro Valley to talk with my parents and I about my prospects at the college. His last words to me: "Remember, Mike, study, study, study." I did and graduated in 1964. Thanks John!

I remember John as one who patiently guided me and my parents through the process of my acceptance to and registration at St. Mary's College during the fall of 1963. My condolences.

Another Montera student here. Running around the grass field there will be forever remembered by me as "Scudder Laps". I was was also at Skyline when he was Vice Principal. May he rest in peace.

I remember Coach Scudder from ST. Mary's HIgh School where I graduated in 1952. He was a fine addition to the faculty there. A good role model for the students.

May he rest in peace. 50 plus years have passed since he was my teacher at St. Mary's HS, and then advisor at SMC. He set quite an example for all of us to follow.
I enjoyed seeing him at the HS Hall of Fame Dinner a few years ago.
Condolences to his family.

I was deeply saddened to see the passing of Mr. Scudder. He was not only my PE teacher at Montera Jr. High, he was the teacher that had the most influence on my life. He taught me that things in life come to those who work hard. He really saved me from being in bad shape by running me into shape. Thanks for the extra attention, I will never forget what you did for me.

I was so sorry to see this while going through the paper. Mr. Scudder was my PE teacher at Montera Jr. High in 1979. I fondly remember him standing "at ease" while we ran laps, and telling us to "make it hurt!!!" when he thought we were slacking off. I still run daily and hear his voice telling me to "make it hurt". He wanted us to think he was tough, but most of us knew better :-) I am so sorry for the family's loss.
