Hans was my running inspiration for three years at Carlmont, knowing we could never beat him, knowing that following his dedication we could support him as a team, and he led us as a fine team. When Chris and Pat Carey graduated, Hans and Scott Carvey picked up the lead and inspiration and led us to national honors as juniors! Then followed up with our National Postal championship. Plus he led the Key Club and I think was programming our early high school programmable calculator. We all had lots of fun screaming out quarters (440 yd dashes) running the hills, munching on apples from Flager and Filoli estates, following his pacing over the rolling hills miles away from school, watching him recede in the distance as he and Steve Fiamingo carved half an hour off the school record for the marathon into the deep 2:40's over 2,000' Kings Mountain in the Ocean to Bay race. Hans, we miss your blond afro hair, your grimace as you sprinted with the last of your heart and will, your laugh at another of Gordy Featheroff’s antics and your inspiration. May the shade of Huddart Park and waters from Crystal Springs temple bring your soul deserving refreshment and comfort.

Han's running skills were well known and highly admired by my family members (Pat and Chris Carey). Rest in peace, Hans. You were admired by many.

Hans was a long time friend since we were in the fourth grade together. I think I may have been the first person to introduce Hans to running the San Carlos/Belmont hills besides Coach Lansberry. Hans nearly broke the 4 minute mile in college. Our hearts and sympathy go out to the Templeman Family. We will miss him. Larry Regalado/ The Regalado Family.

I remember always seeing Hans running on San Carlos Ave. while driving by with my parents. ( My dad being "The Coach"). Hans was very dedicated. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Templeman family.

Hans' legacy, for those of us who ran long distance at Carlmont and came after him, was an inspiration to us all. I'm very sorry to hear of his untimely passing. My heart goes out to Henry and all of Hans' remaining family.
