Harry Waygaard

Petersen Long-time Oakland Resident Died at home on February 13, 2009 after suffering a stroke. Harry and his twin brother, Eric, were born on October 28, 1929, in Oakland, CA. Raised in Denmark, he returned to the United States in 1950. After serving in Korea, he returned to Oakland to begin his career as a machinist. Harry married Gudrun Jensen in 1954. For many years he was shop foreman at Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory. Harry and his brother eventually started their own business, Petersen Instruments, in Concord. Harry is survived by his wife Gudrun, his five children and two sons-in-law, Susan and her husband Mike, Margaret, Peter, Lisa and her husband Bob, and Richard; three grandchildren, Hanna, Courtney and Eve; his sister Inge Haugbolle, his step-sister Karin, his step-mother Mia, his sister-in-law Patricia Petersen, and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Denmark. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Eric, and his parents. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 11am, at the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park, Berkeley.
