It's 9 months on. I'm in New Zealand, about to return to live in Oakland after a 5-year absence and found Dr. Scott's obituary. He was the only physician for me. The most competent, respectful, and kind man. This is a HUGE loss for the world. He's been taken so early but few have done more for others in their lifetimes .... My thoughts and prayers are with those other loved ones he left behind ... in Zimbabwe, Oakland, and around the world ...

I met Dr. Scott while I was the massage therapist at the Oakland Athletic Club in 1982.
From the time I became a chiropractor in January, 1985, it was an honor to have him refer patients to me.
People totally trusted him and I was grateful to have him in my life.

To the Family of Dr Robert Scott: I worked with Dr. Scott in 1985 @ Providence Hospital. He was a great doctor and a good man. Treated all of his patients with respect and dignity.I have fond memories of him as I remember when he was among few to work with those with HIV/AIDS. I am so sorry that I am just now writing but just knew on 12/9. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Thank you Dr. Scott for your devoted work in helping the African American Communities in dealing with HIV/AIDS. There should be more doctors' such as Dr. Scott who are willing to devote their time and effort in helping the less fortunate. May God bless the family of Dr. Scott

Dr. Scott was a true solider for the Lord! I thank God my family and I had the opportunity to know him as the compassionate person he was. I thank God, we will have the opportunity to see him again. We loved him, but God loved him more! He loved his practice and was damn good. He will truly be missed, because there is no other physician who can come close to providing the care Dr. Scott provided to his patients. Well done servant, well done!

It is obvious that God had need for him in Heaven. His work on this earth was done, and now he is about the business of heavenly matters. Knowing him, it is doubtful that he is RESTING in peace. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Scott. I did not know him persoanlly but his story is one of inspiration. He so eloquently reflects the words at 1st Corinth. 13:4-7, "Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." You are in my prayers.

For some strange reason, I was compelled to check the Oakland Tribune on line from Atlanta. I have not lived in Oakland since 1986. I read now of the untimely passing of Dr. Bob Scott. My fondest memory of him is of his down-to-earth nature and endless compassion for his patients and community. How many physician would appear at your door with a chicken to fry? Such was the man I remember.

I was an HIV/AIDS patient under the care of Dr. Robert C. Scott for twenty years. But when I recall the precious memory of this man, he will always be remembered in my heart as Bob Scott the selfless humanitarian who gave much hope and health to his community.

First and foremost, he was a dedicated and knowledgeable physician in the early fight for HIV/AIDS victims, especially for the underserved African American community in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. He recognized that need for service and co-founded Aids Project East Bay. While I was a recovering patient under his care, I had the honor of serving a director on the board at APEB when Dr. Scott was president. We helped to improve access for the African American community for low cost clinical services for people afflicted by a variety of circumstances.

Lastly, he was a man of great humanity. His volunteer work in travelling to Zimbabwe several times a year to treat children who were afflicted with AIDS stands as an amazing personal effort in South Africa. Personally, as with the recollection of many of his patients under his care, I always looked forward to that special hug and smile at the end of my visit to his office. He gave something more than medical advice to his patients. For me, he imparted love, care, hope, and understanding. I miss you much, Dr. Scott.

Dr Scott was one of the most profound people I have ever met. He kept me alive over the last 18 years, he was my friend, confident, he always had a huge hug for me and told me he loved me. When I recently went through bad times with my company and I had to move to Arizona, he made sure he found me a Dr. here.
I am so proud to say that I knew this man. We was a great man. I mourn him as if her were my own brother. ....he was my brother.

Dr. Scott,

Although you may be gone physically, you will never be far from me. You have been my physician and friend for nine years and during this time you taught me so much about living and thriving. For this I will always be grateful.

Your dedication to humanity and to various causes is extraordinary. I know I don't stand alone when I say how much I admire all that you did for your community and for our world.

God Speed, my dear friend. I know you are in a good place and please know that you made my life better by being in it and you will continue to be in it.

Dr. Scott,

It was with a great deal of sadness that I read of your passing in Thursday's newspaper.

I will never forget the care and concern you showed for me when my husband passed away. You recognized my need for grief counseling, and steered me to the Allen Temple Grief Ministry, which literally saved my sanity.

You were more than a Doctor to my mom and me. When you spoke at my mom's funeral, you said that she was a challenge for you. But, you never gave up on that challenge. You always treated her as if she were your only patient, not rushing through her visits, but patiently listening to whatever she needed to say.

After losing her, you always greeted me with a big hug, and I truly appreciated those hugs, and will miss them.

Rest well, Dr. Scott, for you have truly earned you place in heaven.

May God bless those you've left behind.

Thank you for your excellent care and your friendship.

May God continue to bless you!

You will truly be missed, not only as a great doctor, but a great human being.

Traveling to desolate parts of the world, you gave of yourself to the sick, the destitute and the ostracized with stoic precision as you saved lives.
Traveling to the Lord, you redeem our aspirations as we yearn for purpose.

Dr. Scott, I never had an opportunity to meet you in person, but I felt as if I knew you just the same. You were an important part of the life of someone I've loved practically all my life, and certainly all of his, my cousin, Lamont Nickens. I thank you for being the person that you are and for taking the journey that you took. You touched peoples’ lives and helped them. In my eyes, there is no greater gift a person can give. Dear Dr. Scott,

Thank you for a lifetime of health service, care, love and compassion to people in the greater Bay Area and Zimbabwe. Your "global footprint" has had a positive impact on all those impacted by HIV/AIDS starting at a time when many viewed this illness as a community taboo. I will always remember your insight, energy and support during the several years we served together at the co-chairs of the APEB Board. The February 2003 trip to Zimbabwe was one of the highlights of my life and fulfilled my childhood dream to visit Mother Africa. Rest in peace thy faithful servant. You, your family and Lamont, your patients and staffs will forever remain in my thoughts and prayers. Always, Donald K. Richmond

Dear Dr. Scott:

I never met you personally but I feel that I've known you and your giving spirit for a very long time. You must have been an amazing human being here on earth. The Good Lord must have needed you more than us. I know that you are going to make a huge impact in heaven. You are in such a much better place right now. We will surely miss you and your good deeds. It's earth's loss and heaven's gain. The Good Lord will surely hold you near and dear in his busom and take care of you.

Today My Best Friend Passed Away

Throw away the clocks, turn off the music and stop the singing;
No joy today for my best friend has passed away.

As people pass me on the streets I turn to the left and turn to my right
looking to see if you’re insight.

I dare not show my agony to a world who fails to understand my loss,

Silence is my cloak, loneliness my shield hiding the bitterness I feel,
Today, my best friend has passed away.
