Gloria Vargas Obituary

Gloria Vargas Formerly of Fremont, CA Entered into Heaven on October 8, 2010. She is survived by her son Vernon "Skip" Vargas Jr. and his wife Elynne, grandson Erik Vargas and wife Melissa, grand-daughter Shasta Christ and husband Doug, grand-daughter Crystal Richardson and husband Zach, great-grandson Kemper Christ, sister Jean Gonzales and husband Joe, sister Lorraine Cortez and niece Judy Cortez. Gloria was born in Centerville, CA to Manuel and Rose Furtado on March 7, 1924. She graduated from Washington High School in Fremont, CA in 1942. She was married for over 50 years to her husband Vernon Vargas Sr. prior to his death in 1998. Together they owned and operated the Junction Inn Bar and Restaurant in Warm Springs, CA until their retirement. They moved from Fremont to Redding in 1980 to be closer to their son Skip and family. Gloria moved to Palo Cedro in 1998 and lived on the same street as her son and next door to her sister Jean and brother-in-law Joe. She was a charter member of the Thursday Morning Therapy Bridge Club. Gloria waged a valiant 10 year battle against cancer and was an inspiration to all that knew her. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 7:30PM at Allen & Dahl Memorial Chapel in Palo Cedro. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 15, 2010 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Redding, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Hospice (1544 Market St., Redding, CA 96001) or Another Chance Animal Welfare (9384 Deschutes Rd., Palo Cedro, CA 96073).
