Richard EPPS Obituary

Richard Epps Resident of Livermore Richard "Dick" C. Epps passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2010 in Livermore. He was cared for and surrounded by loved ones in the days prior to his passing. Richard was born in Topeka, Kansas on March 3, 1922. He was fortunate to have had two happy marriages. Virginia was the mother of his six children. Jimmie was the love of his later life. Richard was preceded in death by both wives and his eldest son James. He is survived by daughters Kathleen, Christine, Suzanne, and Mary; son Richard and beloved son-in-law Mark Woy. "Pops" was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Dick was a proud Navy man who had a wide variety of experiences during tours of duty in World War II and Korea. He attained the rank of Commander before his retirement from the Naval Reserve. His career as an engineer included ten years at the University of California cyclotron, twenty-eight years of research at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, as well as a personal business as a forensic engineer. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master's Degree from San Jose State University. Dick was a published author of a memoir of his experiences as a Navy man. Mr. Epps lived his final years at Heritage Estates in Livermore where he made a multitude of friends, a number of whom became a cherished part of his life. The family will hold private services at a later date when Richard's ashes are interred alongside his son James at the National Cemetery.
