Kathleen August Obituary

Kathleen E. August July 9, 1912 - Nov. 7, 2010 Former Resident of Oakland Kathleen E. August, 98, died on Nov. 7, 2010 at Spring Hill Manor in Grass Valley, CA. She was born in San Francisco on July 9, 1912. As an infant, both of her parents died early. She became an orphan, along with her sister Aida and four brothers: Bud, Bill, George and Harry. The six Lyons children were raised by their aunt, Elizabeth B. Goodman of San Leandro. In 1941, Kelly married Clement August who worked at the Oakland Tribune for 41 years and died in 1966. She lived in San Leandro on farm land obtained from the Peralta family who originally acquired it from the King of Spain. Those former fields became a real estate development in 1997. As a home maker, Kelly played the organ for St. Leander's Catholic Church, enjoyed square dancing, reading, and writing letters to the editor. Her family includes her son, Paul August of Nevada City and daughter Patricia (August) Trimble of Sacramento. Her grandchildren are Brian Trimble as well as Wendi August and John August of Grass Valley and Kristi August of Alameda. Chynna is her great granddaughter. Kelly's closest niece is Beryl Vonderheid of Oakland and her closest nephew is Jay Blair Whited of Sebastopol. Daughter-in-law, Muriel August, provided her with support in her later years. No services. Picture Kelly with her cheerful smile, jaunty tam, sparkling Irish eyes and jolly attitude: "Tally ho!" She exits this stage with her favorite piano tune: Irving Berlin's, "What'll I Do?"
