Josephine Lorraine Cain May 16, 1921 - Nov. 19, 2010 Resident of Castro Valley Josephine Lorraine Cain, age 89, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2010 with her children at her side. She was born in Oakland, CA in 1921. She was a long time employee of the United States Department of the Treasury from 1968 until her retirement. She also worked at the Navy Supply Center in her early years as well as for Lakeside Catering in Oakland. Mickey, as she was known to her friends, was an avid singer and was a longtime member of the choirs of St. Agnes Church in Concord and St. Michael's Church in Livermore. She was also a past member of the Oakland Distaff Singers. She was a very devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald J. Cain, brothers Francis (Lefty) Gallagher, James Gallagher, Edward Gallagher and her sisters Aileen Tower, Margaret Burns. She is survived by her children, Michael Cain, James Cain, Joseph Cain, Catherine O'Dea, Patricia Baker, Mary Ann Fernandez and Noreen West as well as her cousin Peggy Ryan of Oakland, her brother-in-law Monsignor James E. Cain of Stockton, and sister-in-law Sister Noreen Cain, SND of Belmont. She is also survived by her grandchildren Shaun Cain, Wendy Cain, Ryan H. Cain, Kevin O'Dea, Nicole (Baker) Vieira, Brian Baker, Corey Cain, Andrew Cain, Kyle Cain, Jason Renteria, E.J. Fernandez, Kim Hinkson, Renee Puisis, Kathleen Hamann, Jerome Singleton, Jonathan West and J.T. Cain. She also had many great grandchildren and was a much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Like her brothers and sisters, Mickey was a great sports fan, both as a spectator as well as participant. She rooted for the Oakland A's, Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers. She faithfully played bingo every week. She enjoyed watching tennis, reading mystery novels and completing crossword puzzles. On many trips to the family houseboat, she could be found floating idly on her back in the middle of the lake or splashing with the grandchildren. She travelled to Hawaii with her good friends Bill and Julie Spencer of Colorado. She also went to Rome, Italy with the St. Agnes Chior. She loved music and singing and was always upbeat and smiling. She was always the first to offer a kind word or a helping hand to all.
