Michael MAGUIRE Obituary

Michael John Maguire 1948 to 2010 Resident of Groveland Michael John Maguire, 62, of Groveland, CA died on November 26, 2010 after a brief illness. Michael was born on September 13, 1948 in Alameda, CA. He was a long time former resident of San Leandro, CA. Michael served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany from 1969 thru 1971. He was an expert marksman and taught weaponry. Michael was a maintenance machinist at the former Alameda Naval Rework Facility from 1971 until he retired in 1998 (a year after the air station was closed). Michael moved to Pine Mountain Lake in Groveland in 2000. Michael married his wife, Judy in 2003. Michael belonged to the Valley Spokesmen, a bicycle touring group. Michael was an avid bass fisherman. He also enjoyed water skiing, cross-country snow skiing, camping, boating, bowling and football. Michael, together with Judy, loved the outdoor life. Michael was a mechanical genius. He helped maintain a race car that toured the United States. While working in Alameda he rebuilt a basket case 1953 Harley Davidson pan head into a custom chopper. He spent his life helping his family and friends fix cars, bikes, houses, toys, anything and everything. He was a generous, sweet, reliable friend to everyone. He volunteered much of his time to community and church groups. Michael was a former parishioner of Saint Felicitas Church in San Leandro. Michael had a strong faith, loved the Bible and worshiped Jesus every day. Michael is survived by his wife Judith; sisters Mary Pult (Tom) of San Ramon and Theresa Martinez (Alex) of San Leandro; brothers, Timothy Maguire (Cheryl) of Peoria, AZ, Patrick Maguire of Newport, OR, Shawn Maguire of Boulder Creek, CA and Paul Maguire of Las Vegas, NV. His parents, John and Bonnie Maguire, and sister Sharon Maguire preceded him in death. He also will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mike's mother, Bonnie Maguire, was my first cousin, the daughter of Aunt Thelma. Our families were very close, spending many holidays and vacations together. Mike and I were both born in 1948, so we literally grew up together. My father (Lestle Warren Ivy) was also very mechanically inclined: he spent a lot of time with Mike working on cars, building things, and just hanging out. When my father died, I gave Mike all his tools, which was the greatest compliment I could pay to anyone. I profoundly hope that whoever gets those tools will use them as my father and Mike did: to help others whenever possible. I know that Mike and Dad are sitting together now, or better yet, fixing the gates to Heaven. Mike will be sorely missed on this earth.
