Leila Henderson Obituary

Leila Ann Henderson Aug. 5, 1921 - Dec. 5, 2010 Former East Bay Resident Leila Ann Henderson was born on August 5, 1921 in North Bend, Oregon into Methodist Preachers family. She married Rev. Douglas H. Henderson on June 20, 1943. Leila was also a team partner in ministry/mission projects with Doug for 51 years. Leila was a school teacher for 52 years in Portland and in the California East Bay Area. She is survived by 3 children, Mary Ann Henderson Stoller of Dayton, Oregon, Rob Henderson of Tustin, California, Dr. Roger Henderson of the Netherlands; 12 fabulous grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the Sunset View Mortuary in El Cerritto, California on Friday, December 10 at 2:30 pm, California Memorial Services will be at the Lake Merritt United Methodist Church, 1255 First Ave., Oakland, CA 94606 on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heifer International or Help a Child in care of Macy & Son.

It was through Doug's encouragement that I explored ministry, and it was through Leila's support and nudging, that I got more involved in Christian Education, and in doing youth work at the local church and beyond. She was inspiring, a great listener, and a person who genuinely cared about everyone. My wife, Joan, and I send our thoughts and prayers to family and friends.
