Ronald Garbe Obituary

Ronald W. Garbe Nov. 27, 1943 - Dec. 25, 2010 Resident of Union City Ronald W. Garbe passed away suddenly on Christmas morning. He was born in Burlington, Wisconsin on November 27, 1943 to Lucille and Herbert Garbe. He grew up on a dairy farm, the fourth of three brothers, and two sisters. After spending four years in the United States Air Force stationed in Germany, he moved to California. There he found a job with Kellogg's Cereal Company in San Leandro where he would work as a maintenance mechanic for the next thirty years. He met, fell in love, and married Joan Marino in 1969. They raised two wonderful daughters, Alicia and Amanda, to whom Ron was a hard-working, dedicated, and loving father. When the Kellogg's plant closed in 1995, Ron retired. He was then blessed with fifteen years to enjoy the things he loved. He took care of his orchids, his house, his yard, and worked on projects in his workshop. In the last two years of his life he was a loving grandpa to Jack Elbert. He was a good neighbor, who visited regularly on walks through the park. He is survived by his wife Joan Garbe, his mother Lucille Garbe, his brothers and sisters, Gene Garbe, Henry Garbe, Julie Wachal, Merlin Garbe, and Darlene Parrish. His daughters Alicia Elbert and Amanda Garbe, his son-in-law Andrew Elbert, and his grandson Jack Elbert. Chapel of the Chimes (510) 471-3363

Thinking of the Garbe family today

My heart goes out to you and your family, Alicia.

On the radio this morning was the story of a newly-discovered supernova. That brought to mind the lines from Julius Caesar:

When beggars die, there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes.

I'm glad that I had the chance to meet the prince named Ron.
