Caroline Zukowski Obituary

Caroline (Zawistowski) Zukowski, 71, of Hartford entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at Parkway Pavillion, Enfield.

She was born on September 27, 1936. Throughout her life she was a resident of Enfield, Suffield, and Windsor before settling in Hartford for the last 26 years of her life. For many years she developed and operated her own successful answering service business, "Caroline's Answering Service," out of her Hartford home. As a devout Catholic, she attended Mass at St Augustine's Church in Hartford. She spent her later years, before her illness, volunteering her time at the church food pantry. She especially enjoyed Christmas, and on Christmas Eve you would find her cooking a great meal for her sons. She loved football and was an avid New York Giants fan. She never missed a game. In her youth she traveled to the Giants training camp to watch them prepare for the upcoming season. In the '60s she was a great fan of Coach Allie Sherman and Giants team members Fran Tarkenton and Homer Jones. She affectionately referred to Tarkenton as 'Flag Ears.' Her dedication to the Giants inspired her to name her two poodles Allie and Fran. She was an animal lover and was a frequent viewer of the Animal Planet channel. Her favorite was the Meerkat episodes. She was grateful for the snuggle time she spent in the nursing home with her grand-dog, Kayla. She will be remembered for the different ways she touched the lives of the people around her. Whether she was mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, or aunt, she leaves us with memories in our minds and a place in our hearts.

She leaves behind her mother, Nellie (Gongola) Zawistowski of Enfield; her sister, Dorothy Africano of Enfield; her brother, Edward Zawistowski and his wife, Tami, of East Granby; her daughter, Cheryl Iacolino and her husband, Joe, of Agawam, Mass.; her sons, Henry Zukowski III of Marion, S.C., and Paul Zukowski of Hartford; her grandchildren, Melissa Flaherty of Enfield, Megan Zukowski of Davie, Fla., Marie Iacolino of Agawam, Mass., Amanda Zukowski of Davie, Fla., Michael Iacolino of Agawam, Mass.; and many other extended family members. She was predeceased by her beloved father, Gus Zawistowski.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
