We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Wasser Family know that we sent Care Packages to US Marines in Iraq today. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Christopher B. Wasser US Marine Lance Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. I was at Fort Sam Houston when I learned of Chris's death. I do today as I did then and always will consider him one of the finest individuals to have ever graced the earth. While barely an adult he was one the best men I've ever met. When my sons are older I want them to be like Chris.

I just saw some of the soldiers we have lost. Although it has been 6 years, I still want to tell you that my family appreciates what your son did to help keep us safe and free. He is indeed a hero to America and our freedoms.

At first I hesitated to leave a message as I do not know you personally, but as the days have passed I was sorry that I hadn't written when I first read the paper. When I did come back to leave a note I saw how very many were just like me, just wanting to tell you that we all are suffering at your loss as though it were our own, for surely it is ours too. My grandson is a Marine and all of his brothers belong to me too and like all of the other mothers and grandmothers I am profoundly saddened. Your son died to protect our country and our freedom. Christopher may have chosen to do this and he may have known the risk but nevertheless he gave his life for my freedom and the freedom of my family. He paid the price for what I believe in. My heart is broken for your loss but I am filled with honor for your son. Rejoice in the fact he is walking with Jesus and you will be with him again.
