I remember what good friends Michael Paul Novak and Keith Denniston were. It was always a treat to hear them read on the same program. I'll always treasure my memories of both men and their contributions to Kansas poetry.

Michael was such a good poet, so funny, and so very, sharply intelligent.

When evaluating if your life had meaning, some may look to their bank accounts or how many expensive toys they have gathered over the years. I think it is safe to say these things meant nothing to my father. What will mean something to him is the knowledge that he touched many lives. He was a campaigner of political truth (Democratic), a friend to all, an advocate to the underdog and a teacher to many. A writer who saw the world not through rose colored glasses but clear glass frames that relayed a message to the reader of truth and hope of what humans are and what they could be. He was my teacher and I will miss him.

Mike was my friend. We had great times together before and after his retirement. He may have been a trivia whiz but was not trivial in the least. He was to be admired for his intellect and compassion. I feel lucky to have known him especially as a friend and also as a professor. I learned much from him about a great many things and I will carry that knowledge with me always. You will be missed.
