I am so sorry to discover Chester's passing. I took his beginning massage course in June 1999 right after I retired from teaching. I knew I loved massage and would be good at it. Chester was our God. We all wanted his approval and some way to get closer to him. Praise from Chester made us glow. He was careful not to go beyond the soft tissue /introductory course. Since then I've taken Deep Tissue and other shorter workshops, but I had the great idea to catch up with Chester again and do his advanced course. It's time for another kick in the pants for me, before the summer job as a massage therapist that I have pinned down for the summer.

I looked up Body Electric and then googled Chester Mainard. That gave me the bad news.
To all those who knew him well, You have my agreement that he was a wise man, a wonderful teacher, and I hope a great friend and partner. The world misses acutely people like Chester, and most don't even know it. His loss to us is one of a loving person and a wonderful resource to make the world better.
To you who knew him better, Bless you. So many of us miss him.

Chester

Although we did not keep in touch for some time we have very fond memories of the many times we spent together in the early and mid nineties when you traveled to Australia. What fun we all had with Barbara and Annie and all the people involved through Body Electric and other groups. I especially remember snuggling up with you for many nights, the two of us cocooned and ‘spooned together’ - sometimes the three of us and sometimes just you and I. They were times of incredible intimacy and openness while at the same time endeavouring to find new ways to relate to each other and to set each other free. The workshops were wonderful and your teachings ring in my head even now, your sense of humour and sense of discovery were unique. At the same time always passionately intense about right and wrong and not being afraid of saying so. You loved dancing.

I remember the night we cut a moon shape into my breast to symbolise the changes in my life and there were other rituals we performed together to mark those changes. Even now I have that scar and touch it, reminding myself of the love we shared and of the universal love and universal mystery of life which surrounds us and brings us new and wonderful surprises every day.

We salute you Chester, and will never forget you, may you rest in peace and watch over us all.

Love Tony Mansfield and Corrina Fox, Sydney, Australia.

I knew Mike in school at Oak Grove. He was a good friend and a lot of fun to be with. Just learned of his passing and regret not making the party. I will always have fond memories of him. Sorry to hear of his death.

Aloha Chester,
Michon here, continuing to practice "The Resilient Edge of Resitance". In each and every session I give, you are HERE with me guiding me into my own greatness. The day I met you and the several years I spent with you learning and assisting, shaped my life in a way NO OTHER Master/Teacher has. Your encouragement, light and laughter assisted me in learning to express my self through compassionate touch in a strong, yet oh so tender and trusting fashion. For this and much more Dear Chester, I am eternally grateful.

Sending my love, gratitude and appriciation on Rainbows and Sunsets,

I took Massage 101 with Chester in October of 2003. I will always regret that I didn't get my husband to take it with him too.
Chester, you will always stand out in my mind as a human being adept at being human. Your awareness that a large and unacknowledged aspect of being human is to be an animal and to be content with and love one's own animal nature--this will stay nested deep in my heart and mind. I think it's your most important gift. The ones who knew you best were lucky people. I wish I had been one of them. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to experience your wisdom and earthiness. Hopefully you'll come back to this planet soon, because we need more like you.
Much love to everyone who ever cared about Chester.

Chester's compassion, wisdom and humor set the tone for loving and learning in all the massage classes and Body Electric events I had the good fortune to share with him. Whether it was cocktails in the city or assisting for Deep Tissue, I felt honored to be in his presence. I try to return that by honoring him in my work and my play. I miss you, Chester.

I took massage certification with Chester and Irene Smith, and later Deep Tissue with Chester. At this point his illness had occurred, and I believe it was his last class. While he was frustrated with his disability, his wisdom, concern and love came shining through as always. Thanks to Chester and Irene, I found my next path in life - I'm now living in Virginia and working (hard!) on a Master's in Nursing. It's a two year crash course, and I was given a $39K scholarship. It feels too easy and right for there not to have been some greasing of the wheels of the universe by Chester. I'll never forget you, Chester, and the lessons you taught me - I promise to teach others as best I can. Love always,

I will never forget such a loving and open hearted person as Chester. He was such a Master in the Art and Science of Conscious Bodywork which I was one of his students a few years ago. He will always be in my heart as I invoke his nurturing spirit everytime I do my massage sessions delighting in my hearing of his gentle words, "breathe..." and of his playful giggles.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Dear Chester!

I came to learn massage and left a more enlightened peron. Chester thought me so much more than what I came for. I see life through new eyes and touch. He will always hold a very special place in my heart and I am a better man from it. Love, Kevin Mclaughlin
