Norman A. Dean Feb. 18, 1928 - Oct. 6, 2007 Former Resident of El Sobrante Norm passed away October 6, 2007 in Oklahoma. Preceded in death by his wife, Marcy; daughter, Sheryl; sister, Daloma; and brother, George. Norm is survived by his sons, Norm Jr., (Laura) and Kenny; one granddaughter, three grandsons, brothers Tom, Eddie, sister Leona Kay Poe, and many nieces and nephews. Norm was previously a business owner of Dean Brothers Auto Repair in El Sobrante. He moved his business to Lower Lake, CA, and retired in Mangum, OK. Services private.

To fight fire with Norm was a lot of fun. "they are a snapin & a popin" as he said on a fire in downtown LowerLake. God Speed my friend. Fosters will never be the same.

Norm gave so much of himself to the community. He took his time about things, but as fire chief, when there was a fire, there was nothing slow about him. He was often the first one on the scene, and I know of at least once when he put the fire out singlehanded before the crew arrived. He was a dependable mechanic who knew how to fix things the old fashioned way, for those of us who couldn't afford the new and expensive ways. Several times he fixed my car even though I couldn't afford to pay him at the time. He knew I would pay him when I had the money, and I always did. Norm loved and was deeply devoted to his wife. He liked to compliment the ladies, but at heart he was a true gentleman. Last time I saw him he said he'd sold his home and was moving back to Okalhoma. I congratulated him, and he said, (this was just like Norm),"Honey, why don't you come with me?" I laughed when I thought of how funny it would be if all the ladies he'd said that to, showed up on his doorstep with a suitcase, saying "We're ready to go, Norm!" He was a special person in our community. They don't make men like Norm anymore.

To the Dean Family,

I spent many hours working alongside Norm while he was in the Fire Department,I must say those are the times I think about and smile! I know that he is in a better place and that you all know that some day we all will meet up together and have a cup of coffee at Fosters together.
I look forward to that day and hope you all will be in good health and live beyond his years. Take care of each other and always stay a family.
Norm was a good citizen and a man among men.
