I was in Kevin O'Neill's English class my sophomore year and he asked me if I would babysit for his 2 boys! Of course I did on several occasions! I graduated in 1969 and he was on my list of top favorite teachers. He will be remembered by many... Prayers to all of his family for their loss.

Kevin was my basketball and baseball coach at Sinclair from 1971-74. As a young naive guy from Fairborn without a father, Kevin more than filled that role and mentored me through my adult life. He was responsible for getting me a job teaching business at Springboro where I coached and taught for 31 years. When I got the head coaching job of the girls' varsity basketball team, I asked Kevin if he would be interested in helping. He didn't hesitate! As any of you who knew Kevin and his coaching style with college guys, imagine him coaching teenage girls. It was fun, interesting and exciting all at the same time. He took to them and they loved him too. (No, he didn't always remember ladies were present with his language, but he always apologized when he slipped.)
Those were special years getting to work with the man who got me started in my career and continued to help me through life. I'll never forget what he has done for me and what he meant to me. As my wife reminded me the other day, if he hadn't gotten me the job at Springboro, there would be no she and I for the past 35 years for we may never have met.
I'll always remember what he told us once. "Life happens the way it's supposed to". I'll never forget you coach. Thank you for all you have done for me! RIP
Thanks to Connie and his children for sharing him with me. I'm sure you all know that there were many, many more people who lives he affected and helped. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Great man & dedicated coach & teacher @ Belmont HS ! He actually cut me from the freshman basketball team then continued to inspire me to excel year after year through graduation in 1969. I’ll never forget his rough & funny kindness to all his students & athletes.... Truly one of a kind ! RIP Coach O’’Neill

Mr. O'Neill was my Freshman year gym coach and my sophomore year English teacher at Belmont, class of '70. I also kept basketball Shot Charts for him that sophomore year. He was to me a "Man's man" when such a role model was socially acceptable. When I was drafted in 1972, it was his tenacity that stuck with me through basic training. I would often ask my Belmont alum friends as to his whereabouts. I wish I could have " caught up" with him in person. Mr. O'neill, rest in peace with Our Lord.

At the Championship Basketball game my junior year (1969) at Belmont High School against Valley View being played at Wilbur Wright HS, we lost at the last buzzer. Fans went wild, and I slipped in the bleachers and got my leg caught between the footboard and the back of the seat board. Screaming my head off, someone called 911 and the fire department came to release my leg from the bleachers. The fire fighters had no luck. Kevin O'Neil came running up the bleachers and told the fire fighters to "get the hell out of the way! I've got this!" O'Neill gently maneuvered my leg out of its trapped position, physically carried me down the bleachers and put me on the ambulance cart to be taken to the hospital. He could be rough and gruff, but he was a gentleman who knew how to take control of the situation. After that situation, we became tight friends, always nudging elbows in the hallway whenever we passed each other. Skip on to 1980... I'm at Sinclair Community College to register for my Nursing classes when I hear "Queenie" from across the large room. It's Kevin O'Neill! He asked me if my leg was still doing me well. We updated each other and ran into each other on several occasions at the school. He told me that I would be the best nurse and continue to be myself. "Be assertive but kind as you always have been." He will always own a piece of my heart and my appreciation. Rest in peace, Mr. O! "Queenie's" order!

Connie: I am so sorry for your loss; Kevin and I were good friends and would try to connect when I visited Dayton. I had not seen you and him in a few years but I would always ask about him through friends. We had some really fun times over the many years since 1962. My prayers are for you and Kevin!!!
