Bob was a devout Catholic and great supporter of vocations to the priesthood and religious life! We at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary have been the recipient of his friendship, support, prayers and generosity. We will remember Bob and Madonna in our Masses and prayers. May he be welcomed home in Heaven by the angels of God and rest in peace!

I remember you as the great uncle who would come to visit us yearly in the Chicago as a stop-over before going to St. Louis. You leave now as a Great Uncle who was a faithful Catholic, great provider, veteran, friend, patriarch of the family, and a charitable and humble guy.

I expressed an interest in your war history, not knowing if you were willing to share. I was quite amazed and thankful for the long letter you sent providing details of your service, which was cut short, thankfully to being wounded. After Madonna passed away, you asked me if I would accommodate you to your annual army reunions. I couldn't pass that up. I have many photos of you and I at these reunions. I provided a special photo where we were able to celebrate your birthday on the day the reunion concluded. For those who read this, the concluding day is really just a Sunday breakfast buffet and everyone goes about their merry way back home. I arranged with the hotel staff to create a special departure desert -- one that you would love -- an ice cream sundae with strawberries.

After you decided to stop your long distance travels, I've visited more often to celebrate your birthdays and see you after Christmas. You were extremely kind and considerate to pay for my meals and any guest's meals. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm fortunate to have known you better over these past 12 years. You'll be in my memory and prayers.

Joe visited Bob in the hospital when Bob was wounded, and gave him his overcoat. Uncle Bob had a terrific memory of events of the war. I wish we had recorded some of the for posterity.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I spoke to Bob last summer when he called to check on my dad, Bob Potter. They were friends from Haskins and Sells. My dad and Bob both passed within two days of each other, so I can only hope that they traveled to heaven together, poised and ready to help God with his financial statements!

Uncle Bob became the family patriarch when may dad, Joe Dugan passed away, always looking after the nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces. Whenever we visited, we would eat and eat and eat, and all the food was great, whether it was in the dining rooms at Harbours Edge, or elsewhere (Kee Grill, ). Since he wasn't very mobile in his later years, we'd find activities where we could be in the car. He must have visited the Lion Country Safari a half dozen times, but it didn't matter because we were together. The next photo is one of our favorites, our 3-hour cruise on the Lady Delay. Rest in peace Uncle Bob, we know you are re-united with Madonna, your brothers, parents and all your loved ones. Continue to watch over us, until we meet again.

Love,
Bill & Michelle

My sincerest condolences to Bob and Madonna's families; Bob is a treasure! What a wonderful man who accomplished so much; I will miss him terribly. It is my honor and privilege to know him, and I am a better person for it. My family and I love Bob, and we enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas with him these last few years; he was always the hit of the party!

I will remember fondly our 7:30 am breakfast meet-ups at the Original Pancake House. We drank black coffee, buttered the pancakes, and Bob always let me order the bacon crisp. We discussed Notre Dame football and solved all of the world's problems; there is no one else like Bob.

Thank you to Trish for always organizing a wonderful birthday celebration that included gorgeous cakes, presents, and balloons. She encouraged the entire restaurant to sing Happy Birthday to you at Kee Grille, and the patrons cheered loudly for you; August 28th won't be the same, and my Flag will fly proudly for you on this day!

My family and I enjoyed attending Mass with you each week. You always looked so immaculate and sharp; your faith is exemplary, and your devotion to the Blessed Mother will continue each day through the kindness you have shown to so many. I will always be praying to Our Lady for you.

Bob, on behalf of my entire family, we thank you for your Service, friendship, conversation, prayers, laughter, and for bringing joy into our lives. You were the first person I called when my mommy passed away, and I can't tell you how much I appreciated your prayers for her every morning. Through Divine Intervention, you joined Madonna on the same day as her passing 12 years ago; well done, Bob – what a love story. You and your family will forever be in my prayers, and I look forward to seeing you again, my friend. I love you xo
