DUNHAM, Della Marie

Della Marie Dunham, 95, of Springfield, OH passed away on November 9, 2021, at Springfield Regional Medical Center, after complications from Pneumonia. Della was born February 13, 1926, in Prater, Virginia to Edna (Vires) and Everett Looney and was the second eldest of 6 children. She was raised in Camp Creek, OH near extended family during The Great Depression. She frequently shared stories of modest living, farm life, and caring for younger siblings. Della held many jobs throughout her career in Springfield, including Walgreens Soda Shop, where she met Francis Dunham, whom she married in 1944. She spent the majority of her career working as an Insurance Examiner for Credit Life Insurance Group. She enjoyed being an active participant in the Lawrenceville and Northwestern communities as she raised her boys (1950s-1970s), followed by the Roseland and Villa Run neighborhoods as she grew older. Della enjoyed community and church events, most recently attending Grace Bible Church, as well as spending time with friends and family. However, above anything else, Della loved serving others through hospitality. Whether it was planning an event for a birthday or holiday, or ensuring there was always a "just in case someone stops by" pie on the counter, it always brought her joy to feed others. Della is survived by: sons, Steve Dunham, of Springfield, OH and Vaughn (Christie) Dunham, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; grandchildren: Aaron (Heather), Justin (Nicole), & Johannah Dunham, Manuel (Mary) Lopez, all of Springfield, OH; Lucas (Kelsey) Dunham, of Madisonville, LA; Carrie (Eric) Gowen of Amelia, VA; and William Briggs of Hinesville, GA; Great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Katherine, Caleb, Abby, Eric, Gabriel, Della-Grace, & Noah Dunham; Caleb & Jared Gowen; Sophia, Gloria & Maria Lopez; and Owen & Lilly Briggs, and siblings: G. Art Looney, Elsie (Don) Knotts, and John Looney. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Dunham; sisters, Faye (Looney) Emmons and Eileen (Looney) Cutlip; brother, "Baby James" Looney; daughters-in-law, Kathy (Leffel) Dunham and Lana (Johnson) Dunham.
