William RADER Obituary

RADER, William Edwin "Bill"

81, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of

November 10, 2021 after

having lived a full and adventurous life.

He was born June 14, 1940, in Springfield, Ohio, to the late Howard Edwin Rader and

Betty Jane Powers. Bill graduated from Springfield High School where he was known to wear his jeans the lowest and chew Dentyne gum. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Chivo SS-341

submarine. He worked for AT&T then Ohio Bell and finally

retired from Southern Bell. Using carpentry (and colorful

language) skills learned from his father, Bill kept busy in his retirement with various projects and handyman ventures.

Bill married the love of his life, Sandra K. "Sandy" Moore, on June 18, 1976, and together they raised his son, Michael, and daughter, Brynn, as well as Sandy's three daughters, Alisa,

Michelle and Stephanie. He loved traveling and his specialty when the kids were young was planning "The Great American Road Trip" with his self-customized panel van and pop-up camper in tow. After Bill and Sandy were empty nesters, they traveled the world together earning pins for their map.

He was a lifelong golfer, having played courses in every state in the U.S. and 6 of the 7 world continents. Bill also loved baseball and was overjoyed about his Braves winning the World Championship. He remained active in his high school and Navy reunion groups.

Bill is predeceased by his parents and Sandy, but leaves behind his legacy of 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. His sister, Kathryn E. "Kitty" Clay, and all his nieces and nephews will miss him as well as the many, many friends he made throughout the years.

As per Bill's wishes, he was cremated and his ashes scattered on the golf course. His family will have a private gathering at a later date to celebrate his life.

I was a friend of Bill´s sister and remember how Bill and his friends had a variety of musical taste from listening and imitating "Mario Lanza" on the record player to tuning into "Wildman Jack" on his radio. He had an unforgettable personality. Kitty so sorry for your loss .

Dear family and friends of Bill´s,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Bill´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" leaves on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Chivo (SS-341). To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).
Jim Sandman, National Chaplain USSVI.
