Asher and Sharon were wonderful neighbors and friends to us when we were newly married and lived in Oxford's mile square. Our topics were those of new home owners and sharing tools and ideas and mistakes. Sharon was my go-to for new mother problems. We all were in wonderment of how our 6 year olds were more computer literate than us. We appreciated Asher's humor, his admiration for Bob's handy man skills, his ability to see "the big world" in every new discovery, and his level of comfort in our house and with our family. Our relationship was unencumbered by university politics, we could find joy in neighborly friendship. The Seidel's will always be first in my mind when recalling beginning a marriage and a family. Peace and love to all the family.

In boxing circles, there´s a saying: Styles make fights. What that means, in layman´s terms, is that you don´t know what will happen when two fighters get in the ring because the one who appears to be in a position that´s smaller or slower or weaker might have some quality that completely flummoxes the bigger, faster, stronger opponent.
Styles make fights. Asher Seidel had a style all his own, and he often seemed to be sparring with the world around him. You think you've figured out how all this works? Well, here´s a left hook to consider first.
Now Asher, he´d usually tell you he was losing this bout. The world would tell you it often didn´t know what to make of his style.
Asher could alternate from attacking to defensive approaches - sometimes in mid-sentence - and that could make him as confounding an ally as an opponent. But those in his corner always could recognize his commitment to the endeavor.
I didn´t get into the ring with Asher too often - I´m a journalist, not a fighter - but I know a good story when I see one. And Asher I´ll never forget.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was my professor for two different courses when I was a philosophy major 2002-2005. Will be praying for your family. -Pamela Miller
