Scott Hart Obituary

Hart, Scott Erskine

Scott Erskine Hart, 65, passed away unexpectedly December 2, 2024, at his West Hollywood, California home.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from Oakwood High School in 1978, Ohio University in 1982 and afterward moved to West Hollywood, California where he lived for 42 years. At the time of his death, he was the showroom manager for Pindler Corp. located in the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

He was the youngest son of James Erskine and Janice Ellen Hart (pictured above). He predeceased his mother by one week, and is survived by his brother Timothy Preston Hart, Bellaire, TX and sister N. Christine Hart, Brewster, MA., for whom he was a great source of laughter, love, support and beautiful memories.

He was warm, kind and funny, and left behind many bereft co-workers, friends and cousins who adored him.

Scott grew up in Oakwood, Ohio on a street with many kids who still fondly remember his theatrical creations which included haunted houses, rocket ships, a fake severed head being lowered each time a car passed by the house, Old Faithful reenactments with a garden hose for 5 cents, and his classic Age of Aquarius lyric pantomime.

He was fired from his first job as evening watchman at Fairmont Presbyterian Church where his mother was secretary. He loved the beautiful library there and saw that it, combined with the church kitchen, created the perfect setting for a formal dinner party with friends. Though the pastor's unexpected arrival put an end to that particular soiree, it never dampened Scott's life-long gift for creating welcoming gatherings and entertaining friends.

Memorials will be held in LA and Dayton where he'll be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum. Memorial dates are TBD.

Scottie was my person. We met at OU and became life long friends. Spring break trip to key west. Tattoos on his 40th birthday. Sprinkles bakery. Birthday calls to look forward to every year for 40 yrs, except this one. He said I taught him how to dance. Home made lasagna and cake for his friends. Going home to Dayton with him for Easter, while at OU. His Mother hiding an Easter basket in my suitcase. Seeing Alien at the movies. Too many parties to mention. Boating in Michigan. Dancing La La Land at the Observatory, just like the movie. His cable show " Cocktails". Laughter, tears, all these years. Visiting my family in Cleveland. The Abbey. Laguna beach, "where nobody touches your stuff". Talking for hours on the balcony. Scout Houston. Bruce. Earth,Wind, and Fire. Christopher Cross. Stories about sailing with his father. Scottie. My person. How do I do this without you?

Scott was an incredibly kind, trustworthy, and hardworking individual who made a positive impact on everyone he met. He had a way of brightening our days with his genuine nature and warm spirit. I will always treasure the conversations we had about his days growing up in Dayton, Ohio-his stories reflected the heart of who he was. Scott will be deeply missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
