An active member of the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner, Kettering American Legion Post 598, and The Dayton Ski and Board Club; Gerhard cherished his community involvement. In his later years he found joy in Saturday visits to Dorothy Lane Market's wine tastings, where he enjoyed connecting with friends and neighbors. Gerhard was the epitome of strength, determination, and charisma leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elli Brueninghaus; his brothers, Herman, Erich, Dieter, and his sisters, Lenchen, Elsa, Irmgard and Ingrid. He is survived by his sister, Erika Schomueller (Georg), his beloved son, Mark Brueninghaus (Tim) and special friends, Guy and Peggy who will forever cherish his memory. A memorial service to honor Gerhard's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner 1400 E. 51h St. Dayton, OH 45402 and/or Hospice of Dayton 324 Wilmington Ave. Dayton, OH 45419 in honor of his legacy.
