Margaret Miller Obituary

Margaret Jane Lyerly Miller

PFAFFTOWN - Margaret Jane Lyerly Miller, our Dear Mother, of Pfafftown, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at the age of 92.

Mrs. Miller was born May 16, 1914, in Rowan County, to the late Jack L. Lyerly Sr., and Lizzie Belle Gobble Lyerly. She attended Salisbury City Schools and graduated from Spencer High School in 1932.

On Aug. 10, 1934, she married Brice W. Miller and lived in Salisbury until 1948, when the family moved to Winston-Salem. She was a former member of Reynolda Presbyterian Church and a current member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Mother seemed happiest when surrounded by her family. She kept each of us doubled over in laughter at her quick wit and clever retorts. She will especially be remembered for her annual Santa Claus renditions, complete with beard, sack and Rudolph stories; but also for her unquestionable love for children and her unbeatable chocolate and coconut cakes. She gave her all to her family, who will cherish her love and laughter forever.

In addition to her parents, Mother was predeceased by two sisters, Greta L. Harris and Helen L. Haynes; and by five brothers, Ralph L. Lyerly, Edgar G. Lyerly, Glenn R. Lyerly, J.L. Lyerly Jr. and Gilbert W. Lyerly.

She is survived by son Charles J. Miller (Ann) of Winston-Salem; daughters Rita M. Johnson (Hiram) of Winston-Salem and Bronah M. Livingston (Bill) of Denver, N.C.; grandchildren Todd Miller of San Diego, Calif., Sharon Bickel (Don) of Charlotte, David Miller (Laura) of Tega Cay, S.C., John Johnson of Ahoskie, Charles Johnson of Winston-Salem, Laura Livingston of Falls Church, Va., and Meredith Bates (Joey) of Charlotte; and great-grandchildren Melissa Bickel, Margaret Bickel and Kate Miller. She is also survived by her dear friend, Price Greer.

Service: The family will celebrate Margaret's life with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3771 Yadkinville Road, Pfafftown, with the Rev. Yarbrough officiating.

Memorials: Memorial contributions can be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC, 27101.

Vogler and Sons Funeral Home in Winston-Salem is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank the staff of Vienna Village for the loving and expert care they so generously provided to Mother and to all who are fortunate to be served by them. The family also thanks the staff of Salemtowne Health Care Center for their kind attention to Mother in her final days. A special thank you is extended to Reverend Jack Yarbrough, of Centenary United Methodist Church, and his wife, Sylvia, for their faithful visits to Mother during the past years. Their friendship has been a comfort and a blessing to her.

I never had the honor to meet Mrs. Miller, but I did have the honor and pleasure of becoming good friends with her granddaughter, Sharon, and her family. Knowing Sharon and meeting her mother, has only given me a glimpse of what a wonderful person Margaret must have been to have been the matriarch of such a beautiful, god-loving, family. My heart goes out to you in this time of loss. Yet, my joy goes out to your mother/grandmother, who is at home with our Lord. God Bless you all, Dawn Williams

So very sorry to hear about Aunt Margaret. She was a dear person. Spent many happy hours at her house with the three of you. Hope we can all get together sometime. Would love to sit & talk to all of you. When Charles called yesterday I wanted to keep him on the phone to hear about each of you. I know Aunt Margaret will be greatly missed.
